Users' Top 10 of 2018 Predictions
So I recently spent a little bit counting 5's and 4.5's from well-received and well-known bands on Sputnik and I just wanted to know if you had thoughts on what this would look like. This is also heavily taking into consideration what campaigns and votes I saw on the Users' Ballot Thread before it got taken down. One last thing, I'll go ahead and apologize for the overuse of the word "seem" here, but since all of this is really speculative, I thought it'd be appropriate to emphasize the phrase. Agree? Disagree? Let me know!
Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic
This could easily go to Sister Cities by The Wonder Years, but The Ocean was all over that Ballot's Thread last time I checked. Since it seems to have some of the weaker voting stats out of the entries on this list, however, it probably peaks at 10.
Joy as an Act of Resistance
Major hype on release along with seemingly good voting stats and ballot representation keeps this one alive and well.
Nearer My God
|7||Car Seat Headrest|
Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)
Who said remakes couldn't represent (probably the mods but I'll take the L if this is disqualified)?
Ordinary Corrupt Human Love
A wide array of audiences, unique appeal, and massive exposure confirm Deafheaven as a serious contender here.
From the Gallery of Sleep
The breakout band not named Rolo Tomassi seemed to do excellent on ballot representation and voting numbers, making it squeak its way into the top 5.
|4||Kids See Ghosts|
Kids See Ghosts
Missing out on the Staff's Top 50 will surely mean huge redemption here, right?
As much as I think this album deserves the top spot, its popularity and voting stats just don't have quite the impact that the top two above it do.
You Won't Get What You Want
For this one, I don't expect much change in placement from the Staff's list, if any at all.
Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
Daughters seemed to have the better voting stats, but this album appeared too often and too high on people's ballots to not take the top spot. Plus, for coincidence, Brand New's Science Fiction got #11 on the Staff's List and got #1 on the Users' List last year. Time Will Die... was #11 on the Staff's List this year, so fate might have it as the Users' #1 album of 2018.
I reckon Daughters will take #1 honestly but would love to see it go to mwY or Rolo. 6 seems a little high
6 maybe a little high, but it’s got a lot of high ratings (albeit from the album having a lot of ratings in general) and it popped up pretty often on the Ballot Thread.
7 is lame, hopefully it isn't there
Hopefully Ben Howard makes it but it won't
I think Ben Howard will make the top 50 but there are just too many other stronger contenders for it to be that high.
Also, Car Seat Headrest is not lame fatneeka.
I think The Armed has a good chance of making the top ten. Could even be top five.
I would love that as a surprise but unfortunately it’s positive ratings are too median for it to do anything in the ballots.
Top 5 looks fairly possible but Deafheaven got a lot of heat I think. And 7 is a remake, i would be so disappointed.
Ben Howard or nothing
Watch Wout Gooris win this thing
If the Armed doesn't make the top 10, I will revolt
Sons of kemet or nothing.. Jenny hval EP seems to have come and go unnoticed this year..
god help us all if this is how it is
@Dewi Even though Deafheaven did get some bad press over the past few months, they still had a lot of dedicated fans voting for them in the ballots. I think it’s only that end of the spectrum that counts in these lists.
4: didn't hear yet, don't know if I want to
I thought 4 was one of the worst things I heard this year but apparently I was terribly wrong.
