| Trying out bands we don't like, part 3
Part 3, you know the deal by now | 1 | | Skillet Comatose
DK: 1.5, People who like this crap wear shirts that say "Saved" in tribal font and vote Ted Cruz.
Me: 2, I beat up kids that listened to this in HS (jk) | 2 | | Culture Club Kissing to Be Clever
DK: 2, Dull hair salon music. I was expecting this to be more engaging.
Me: 2.5, Pretty meh. Couple alright songs but overall boring | 3 | | The White Stripes White Blood Cells
DK: 3.5, Started out strong, stayed good, but tapered off a bit on the last few tracks.
Me: 4, Fun alternative album from start to finish always dug TWS | 4 | | The Strokes Is This It
DK: 3, Was decent enough, but nothing really jumped out at me. I expected more.
Me: 3.5, Decent, the vocal filter was starting to get irritiating by the end | 5 | | Arcade Fire Funeral
DK: 1.5, I hate indiepop/folk, and this crap blazed a trail for all that "inspirational" crap on the radio.
Me: 3.5, Need to revisit it later and listen to the lyrics better, but seemed to be very inspirational/emotional | 6 | | Kings of Leon Because Of The Times
DK: 3.5, Enjoyed listening to it. A bit off cross genre flavor. Better than I expected.
Me: 3.5, Much better than I expected, fun radio rock that I'd heard a track or two off of | 7 | | Paramore Riot!
DK: 4, excellent songwriting
Me: 3.5, Quintessential highschool pop punk-core, always was decent but never the best | 8 | | My Chemical Romance The Black Parade
DK: 2.5, Not awful, but not for me.
Me: 3.5, Used to listen to this until I despised it, listening to it for the first time in a decade was actually pretty refreshing. | 9 | | Vampire Weekend Modern Vampires of the City
DK: 2, All I remember is that I didn't like it.
Me: 3, I appreciate what it is, but indie pop has been done better | 10 | | Yeah Yeah Yeahs Fever To Tell
DK: 3.5, I liked most of the songs on this album EXCEPT for the hit, 'Maps'.
Me: 3, The vocal filter was getting annoying, but everything else was decent (by this point I was worn out on filters) | 11 | | Fall Out Boy Take This to Your Grave
DK: 1.5, *deep breath* Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck yooooooooooooooooooooouuu (with this hyperlinked, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XM6P6mygPw)
Me: 2.5, Never was a FoB fan, this didn't change that | 12 | | Evanescence Fallen
DK: 2.5, Pretty disappointing. Bring Me To Life was the best track on the album.
Me: 2.5, Boring fat-girl metal | 13 | | Avenged Sevenfold Waking the Fallen
DK: 2.5, It was alright when they sounded like they were impersonating Metallica.
Me: 4, The pinnacle of upper-great to low-fantastic metalcore | 14 | | Bullet For My Valentine The Poison
DK: 1.5, I wanna give these guys books so I can dump them.
Me: 2, Mallcore entry level crap. | 15 | | Sum 41 Chuck
DK: 2.5, It was short, but I really don't care for the vocal style of pop-punk.
Me: 3, short, sorta sweet, and to the okay point | 16 | | Maroon 5 Songs About Jane
DK: 2.5, I loathe "She Will Be Loved", but the uncharted stuff was alright.
Me: 3, had ups and downs that averaged out to an okay album. Nostalgic. | 17 | | Death Cab for Cutie Transatlanticism
DK: 4, Nice, mellow, and had some interesting melodic composition.
Me: 4, Chill, melancholy, will probably revisit and listen to more of their discog | 18 | | Killswitch Engage Alive or Just Breathing
DK: 2, I liked it when the guy wasn't singing.
Me: 4, Already heard it, already loved it | 19 | | Mudvayne L.D. 50
DK: 2.5, Somehow less charming than Pantera.
Me: 3, Watered down nu-Pantera. Not the worst, not even bad really. | 20 | | The Darkness Permission to Land
DK: 3. I get why Lemmy called them a novelty group. Still, I enjoyed it enough.
Me: 3.5, Super fun album I've heard a hundred times | 21 | | Morrissey Viva Hate
Bonus entry that I just finished listening to by myself while compiling this.
I had already had The Smiths' entire discog rated and enjoyed it all for the most part which was a surprise to me for reasons I find hard to explain, but I had yet to try Morrissey's solo work. I have(had?) this great irrational hate for the man as a person because it seems like every music blog I follow has an article daily about Moz and a concert he canceled to the disappointment of his fans. Well I have always been one to preach "separate the man from the music" and in this instance I wasn't doing that, so I rectified that by listening to Viva Hate. Fuck me for not listening to this sooner, I really enjoyed it and will be spending the rest of my work day listening to his solo work. Hard 4. | |

05.22.17 | you gotta comment for it show up | Nazzadan
05.22.17 | I was tweaking it a bit and made a few edits but ye was about to comment.
DK and I had some opposing opinions on a few of these. | Kalopsia
05.22.17 | really liking these lists you do, good read | dctarga
05.22.17 | "Boring fat-girl metal"
Never has a truer statement been said.
Also, you get a Pantera-ish vibe from L.D. 50 huh? I can see it in the vocal delivery and overall song structure maybe, I just feel like it's more interesting than that. I also may just have a boner for Ryan Martinie's bass playing. | butcherboy
05.22.17 | I get all the flak people throw their way, but The Darkness were a rad fucking throwback band.. a lot of fun, a great live show and some serious guitar chops.. stole the show at quite a few summer festivals a few years back.. | SteakByrnes
05.22.17 | Love reading what you guys think about the albums | LethalPaintball
05.22.17 | sometimes i look at these lists and think to myself
"do you listen to anything other than metal subgenres" | Nazzadan
05.22.17 | I honestly can't believe a non-metal subgenre hasn't cracked my piechart yet with how much non-metal I've listened to. I guess it's just not all focused enough in a single genre.
Also @Butcher I really dig them, and Duck_King really likes that band they formed after the singer left. | neekafat
05.22.17 | "Was decent enough, but nothing really jumped out at me. I expected more."

05.22.17 | nothing but crap on this list | SandwichBubble
05.22.17 | So your friend gives Arcade Fire a 1.5 and says he hates indie stuff, but gives Death Cab a 4.0?
Strange times we're living in. | Sinternet
05.22.17 | people who dislike funeral aren't your friends | Conmaniac
05.22.17 | seems like you like most of these bands haha. 17 is killer good opinion | dreamgauze
05.22.17 | sad about funeral | CalculatingInfinity
05.22.17 | " Watered down nu-Pantera"
This is just...not true. Despite love these lists keep them up. | Nazzadan
05.22.17 | Something to keep in mind is we were doing work while listening to most of these so they got a majority of our attention at best, and less than half at worst. So we very well might have "missed" a few elements of a lot of these. L.D. might be worth revisiting at some point if people are insisting it's better than I gave it credit for. | dctarga
05.22.17 | @Nazz
I think you gave it due credit, 3.0 is fine honestly. It's not some masterpiece by any means. I just don't get any Pantera vibes from it is all
"Internal Primates Forever" & "Death Blooms" are worth a re-listen at least. | Minushuman24
05.23.17 | I really actually dig your lists, even though I disagree half the time
hoping there's more | Nazzadan
05.23.17 | Yep gonna be a couple more parts, this list is about the halfway mark! |
