My First Festival- Eaux Claires ranked
Got tickets to Eaux Claires Festival in July. It's in my home state of Wisconsin and I couldn't be more excited. These are the top 15 albums of my favorite artists that will be there. Just my opinion of course. Top 5 are basically interchangeable for me. |
15 | | The Tallest Man on Earth Shallow Grave |
14 | | Sufjan Stevens The Age of Adz |
13 | | Sufjan Stevens Michigan |
12 | | Sufjan Stevens Seven Swans |
11 | | The Tallest Man on Earth There's No Leaving Now |
10 | | The Tallest Man on Earth Dark Bird Is Home
This is just a prediction... Making myself wait til the release date to listen. The full band arrangements should make his live show interesting. |
9 | | The National Boxer |
8 | | The National Trouble Will Find Me |
7 | | Bon Iver Bon Iver, Bon Iver |
6 | | The National Alligator |
5 | | The Tallest Man on Earth The Wild Hunt
As a guitar player, this album is an inspiration. On one song you'll get intricate fingerpicking and soft vocal melodies. On another, harsh strumming and intense, emotional vocals take the work to another level. With his minimal setup, Kristian Matsson produces a folk masterpiece. |
4 | | Sufjan Stevens Illinois
The instrumentation of this project is incredible. Its ambitious, catchy, and has an indescribably unique character. But the best moments are its soft, moving pieces. John Wayne Gacy Jr, Casimir Pulaski Day, and The Predatory Wasp tear me to pieces. |
3 | | Bon Iver For Emma, Forever Ago
The perfect album for a Wisconsin winter. This project is great as a whole; its flawless tracklist and cohesive sound make it one of my absolute favorites. If only we could stop 13 yr old girls from fangirling over Skinny Love. |
2 | | The National High Violet
It's difficult to pick a favorite album by a band so respected for consistency. I think this has the best of both both worlds for The National; slow melancholy songs are met with the melodic indie rock of Alligator. Terrible Love is a career highlight, and the last 4 songs are perfect. |
1 | | Sufjan Stevens Carrie and Lowell
"I like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things"
This Tom Waits quote comes to mind when playing this. It may be a bit too early to call this my favorite, but it's really connected with me in a number of ways. I'm really excited to hear how Sufjan introduces these minimal songs into his over-the-top live show. |
