Sinister Ranked
Blaze up. Overlooked band, maybe a top ten dm band for me though. I was going to do this list in December, but you know, I can't keep up with shit. |
1 | | Sinister Diabolical Summoning
It's my 5. I have to give the one spot to this album. One of my first dm treks ever, and when I listen to it I am absolutely fine with looking for no flaw and just kicking back and listening to some dm auditory bliss. The other top records in the 2 and 3 spot I've seen praised higher than this which is totally fine, but when I listen to those I can't help but be way more critically conscious with a piece or two not lining up exactly the way I like it. This album's like a Prozac that's like "you know what, don't worrrrry about it. It's all good." |
2 | | Sinister Hate
I'm going with the two spot for this year, and I contemplated it for the 1. This one is a great journey and brings the thrills and trills and certainly hits some sweet spots all throughout. It's less "immediate" but has less repetitive parts than 1, so in a sense it's more varied and expansive but again, 1 has too many legit jams that are classics, that while the song structures are a little more simplistic, they always satisfy. |
3 | | Sinister Cross the Styx
Maybe the controversial slot on this list, but imma be honest and say it didn't grab me really at all at first, and was the most difficult for me to "get into". It's a lot of people's 1's, but I think it being one of my least accessible listenings from me, to going to number 3 here is a big rise and testament to its straight osdm quality. As a blasphemist, I feel similarly for say Dark Recollections by Carnage which I also was spinning at the same time. Maybe I'm totally wrong and this is the real 1. |
4 | | Sinister Deformation of the Holy Realm
Now we get into the rest of the 4's. I have to do the major shoutout for the 2020 release. This is a slapper of slaps for the modern incarnation of the band. Extremely listenable, likeable, and in places lovable. This album has so much packed into its riffage offering and moves at an extremely well-paced tempo throughout, it's easy to blast through a full listen of this at any time and always enjoy it. |
5 | | Sinister Afterburner
Probably my biggest surprise in terms of quality listen and output from the band. There was quite an uninteresting lull in the band for a number of albums before this, and this one surprises you with some ferocity and harmonics right out the gate on the first song. Stylistically and compositionally it holds its ground and basically just delivers the whole way through with some definitively dense and gnarly rooted riff structures abound. |
6 | | Sinister The Carnage Ending
Maybe an underrated one. It's part of my 4's though. I personally think it rips some upper bodies in half. |
7 | | Sinister Legacy of Ashes
Probably one of their least appraised outings, but I *like* it. |
8 | | Sinister The Post-Apocalyptic Servant
The 3.5's. It seems I'm not as big on this as others would say, as I have a couple less-favorited picks above it. I think it's a consistent, fair outing that keeps it straight and does what it does. When I did my Sinister run, I happened to rate this lower than the others I was jamming at the time. |
9 | | Sinister Aggressive Measures
Higher minds might say this should be higher up.
Blood Follows the Blood made me up this. |
10 | | Sinister Syncretism
Probably my least listened aside from the last spot, but I do remember it being aight. Giving more cred to the modern era of the band since they have sustained it this whole time. |
11 | | Sinister The Silent Howling
Nothing particularly wrong. But we're looking at consistency here. |
12 | | Sinister Savage or Grace
This picks up major steam about halfway through, and actually does some stuff to impress and really enjoy in the latter half. It is though, rated as a 3. |
13 | | Sinister Creative Killings |
