| Time Will Die... ranked
AOTY all opinions are mine and mine only and therefore objective | 10 | | Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
Towards Dawn
It's an ambient outro, of course it was gonna be last, but that doesn't mean it's in any way bad. It serves it's purpose completely, is genuinely interesting and really sets up the tone and general mood of the record, which is everything it's supposed to do. | 9 | | Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
Risen
I used to think of this track as the lesser Aftermath, but man was I wrong. This is a thing of beauty in and of itself an the perfect closer. You ever see shitty disaster movies, let's say 2012 for example? This is the moment after the whole earth has been swallowed underwater when the storm goes away and they first see new land. It's not an ending, rather the beginning. Hopefully a metaphor for what the band does after this album. | 8 | | Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
Alma Mater
A tight burst of ferocity with a wonderfully melodic clean section. Perhaps one of the most conventional tracks here but done with effortless grace and anger. | 7 | | Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
Balancing the Dark
The best way to describe this is eerie. The thick repeating synth really makes this song. Another more conventional track and the short runtime (relative to some of the other cuts here) keeps things tight and m/. Immensely enjoyable. | 6 | | Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
Whispers Among Us
This feels fucking heavy. Deep riffs that feel like your watching civilisation being pummeled into the ground by 500m tall mecha-godzilla. And all you can do is fucking watch. You inferior parasite. | 5 | | Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
Aftermath
The first time I heard the album i fhought 'this track is so out of place'. And it wasn't even to the third or fourth listen where I began to realise there is no better place for it to be. Together with Towards Dawn, the two opening tracks do a fantastic job at not only showing the band's versatility as songwriters but as being the calm before the storm in this record. The whole album flows beautifully and every track feels lkike there's a reaso to it's order in the tracklist. On 99% of indie albums this would be the highlight, an epic and haunting but also sweet and rose-coloured track with a wealth of emotional depth. Yet it's only fifth in my ranking. Man this album goes hard. | 4 | | Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
The Hollow Hour
The buildup on this track is godly. The way this devolves into chaos and manic screams and riffs tears posers a new one. Parts of this remind me of newer Architects which is by no means a bad thing. The last three minutes of the track is just the fucking best, easily one of the most memorable parts of the record. | 3 | | Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
Rituals
Man this is so ominous and brooding from the intro to the breakdown. Definitely feels like you walked into a satanic ritual or something. This is made even better from the tight runtime which leaves no room for filler, every part of the track just feels like it comes in at the right time to scratch that itch. Also in my opinion Eva's best vocals on the whole album and an excellent choice for a single, easily my most played song this year. | 2 | | Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
Contretemps
The piano is fucking beautiful on this track. This is almost a sigur ros track with harsh vox and crushing guitars for most of the song. If you think that's a bad thing, fuck you jam this. | 1 | | Rolo Tomassi Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
A Flood of Light
This is the apocalypse in song form, the chorus is phenomenal. Probably in my top 20 or so songs ever now. The longest song on the record and it deserves it wholly, wish it was even longer. The atmosphere this brings is crushing. The constant dichotomy between moments of peace against anguish. Holy shit this track is so good. SOTY SOTY SOTY SOTY SOTY SOTY | |

11.07.18 | Ranking this album is like ranking Regina Spektor's discography. Yeah I know what order I'd put it in, but they all slay so hard it doesn't even matter.

11.07.18 | I can get behind this, only wish Alma Mater and Aftermath were higher. AOTY if not close to be, still gotta sort out my shit. | NorwichScene
11.07.18 | Alma Mater is my 1 | veninblazer
11.07.18 | It's near impossible to rank this album. All I know for sure though is I'd move Alma Mater above Rituals. | Sinternet
11.07.18 | didn't know people were so into alma mater hmm
great track but it's comfortably in my lower half | CugnoBrasso
11.07.18 | 2 is 1 forever please correct your list | Demon of the Fall
11.07.18 | Nice list, 1 & 4 are my favourites. All-round excellent album. Alma Mater is possibly a little low & Rituals a little high but I'm nit-picking here. | Sinternet
11.07.18 | @cugno no
@demon m/ | Snake.
11.07.18 | yeah alma mater is way too low
it's basically a toss up between that song, whispers, and hollow hour at 1 for me | tyman128
11.07.18 | Aftermath is 1 for me, the first song that drew me into the album and the song that keeps me coming back | CugnoBrasso
11.07.18 | I agree that Alma Mater is too low, but I can see why some people don't like it as much as I do, it's the least experimental song on the album, it sounds a bit "convergey".
Contretemps is just phenomenal. If you pay close attention, you will notice that the guitar plays clean arpeggios most of the time, and distortion actually comes from an overdriven farfisa organ. I've been obsessed with this idea ever since I heard this song, it's pure genius. | Tundra
12.01.18 | Best song is Time Will Die, cause, you know, it's just one long song winky face |
