Rec Roulette Round 4 - Waves of Change

bgillesp, butcherboy, Frippertronics and I
1Ulver
The Assassination of Julius Caesar

Submit
THREE SONGS total
One song from a band that used to sound a certain way, but eventually changed their sound to either just as good a quality or even better, which will be the other song. And the third track is what you think they might sound like next or what would suit them to sound like next. Remember, kids, All of these styles and songs must be good in your view. If this is too confusing, I'll be happy to explain it further in the comment section.

If you won't be able to submit anything worthwhile and we will have to come to a compromise, 0.5 points will be stricken from each of your submissions.

Your points so far:

The Jester Race

bgillesp - ORIGINAL
Moonshield
The simpleton that I am, I failed at apprreciating this piece of work. I don't know why, but the overly fantasy-inspired music, the growly vocals and the messy production drowning half of the actually decent songwriting just did not sit well with me. I guess I'm just not into In Flames. Their side project Passenger though... 3.4/5
3In Flames
A Sense of Purpose

bgillesp - NEW
Sleepless Again
I don't see that much of a change in the brand of Metal they're delivering, except the prodcution is a little clearer and therefore not as heavy or dismal and the songwriting definitely went for more of a melodic and simple form, which does not payoff in the longrun and ends up being somewhat forgettable. Yeah, I'm not feeling this one either. I can't even imagine how much you probably hate me right now for liking Battles more than anything else tehy released. 3.0/5

The Devil's Orchard
An interesting track full of nice instrumental work. I can't quite see, how will they transition from something like Sleepless Again to this, but of they do, it might be for their own good, at least in my eyes. 3.8/5

Scraps at Midnight

butcherboy - ORIGINAL
Hotel
Butcherboy finally hit a goldmine, cause I already liked Mark Langean to begin with. It only took to find some songs I happen to have skipped and the deal was sealed. It's a fantasque and wonderfully grim atmospheric track. 4.2/5
6Mark Lanegan
Field Songs

bitcherboy - NEW
Kimiko's Dream House
Not a whole lot has changed, except for maybe the mood. It's definitely softer and more uplifting in its spirit, the sognwriting turned a bit more blissful too. I guess he's a happier lad now. 3.7/5

butcherboy - FUTURE
Chain of Flowers
Seeing how pleasant and easier on the ears Mark's newer self is, I can absoluetly see him turning up with a record like this at some point. It's also softer and somewhat melodramatic, but overall spirit-raising and full of sophistication. I can see Mark turning this way, but I'd personally prefer he stayed the way he was. 3.9/5

Secrets of the Beehive

Frippertronics - ORIGINAL
Maria
A pleasant, relaxing and dreamy endeavour that kind of goes nowhere, but you don't exactly expect it to. It's a somewhat meditational song, but one with some interesting instrumetnal additions at the background that are interesting to observe upon further listens. 3.8/5
9David Sylvian
Blemish

Frippertronics - NEW
A Fire in the Forest
So what exactly is different? I mean, it is still pleasant to listen to, but it is in no way actually different. He didn't progress, his music didn't mature and neither his vocal nor musical style hasn't radically turned around. I can't tell what has changed from this track. Sure, he incorporates his vocals in a little more, they have a sharper paste, and the music is a bit more electronic, but that's about it. It doesn't reflect any new mood, atmosphere or thematic shift. The track is fine in in of itself, though. 3.4/5

Never Again
Wh...why though? You want a perfectly okay ambient-esque artist to turn into an obscure noise-stricken collection of unintelligible, barely listenable rattle? Never Again indeed. 1.8/5
