An actually really pleasant release that sounds a tad formulaic and does get somewhat obtuse and redundant by the end, but is a nice time-spender nevertheless. 3.6/5

This is actually unexpectedly great release. It's fun, funky, exciting and well put-together. Of all the Downtempo albums I've ever heard, this might actually be the one I will come back to more than once. The songs have a nice loose and nonchalant exotic atmosphere and the flow of the tracks and the intriguing features keep it a tight, memorable and enjoyable listen. This might be it, my favourite Downtempo album, if, of course, it is actually primarily Downtempo, because compered to the other albums I've heard thus far, it doesn't seem to be entirely so. 4.2/5

This is what I always deemed Downtempo to be, a purely relaxing piece of chamberly music. Listening to this is like setting a room temperature, reading a perfectly okay book and drinking a warm, but not hot tea. It's everything exactly at a level you'd want it to be for a day to balance between fine and mediocre. Nothing too distressing, but nothing particularly out of the ordinary either. 3.7/5 -0.5 = 3.2/5

08.08.17 | I have a tradition of trying to understand different kinds of music I usually lack the understanding for, one genre a year. I started fully committing to this tradition I call "Genre on the Grid" in 2016, where I chose the observed style to be Progressive Metal/Rock (but mainly Metal), all hoping to find that one album that I would actually love. I failed, although there were some worthy precedents (The Dear Hunter, The Pineapple Thief, Orbs as exemples). Through a public survey on Sputnik, which was later deleted, I determined my 2017 'genre on the grid' to be Downtempo, but as it seems, there hasn't been a lot of that released this year, so as the time goes and I've heard barely ten records of a genre I swore to listen as much of as I can, I realised that I will have nothing to show off for at the end of the year. Thus I give unto you the task of finding me Downtempo albums worthy of my attention. I thrust my trust on you. Do good. | butcherboy
