Mercury's Best 25 of 2016
SO, I think we can all agree that despite the rain of shit 2016 dealt a lot of us, it was an absolute cracker for music. I feel before I go on that my list isn't JUST going on what is subjectively better, but the records I keep coming back to despite their flaws. Also where relevant I've included links to my reviews. |

8 | | The Algorithm Brute Force
Crushingly heavy, a little one-dimensional in places, but obscenely well produced.

7 | | Three Trapped Tigers Silent Earthling
Techy, spazzy, super fun riot. |

5 | | Death Grips Bottomless Pit
The perfect headfuck.

4 | | Russian Circles Guidance
OK so my review may have been a little hyperbolic and OTT given the objective talent on display here, but this album resonated with me in a big way and I can't stop myself coming back.

3 | | David Bowie Blackstar
From an objective standpoint, this blows everything else out of the water. The emotion, the poignancy, the bared soul, everything about this is beauty, but it is still incredibly hard for me to listen to. |
2 | | Avenged Sevenfold The Stage
Holy fuck, they REALLY came through on this one, every listen is giving me something new, something unexpected, and I never had them down as ones for subtlety...

1 | | The Dillinger Escape Plan Dissociation
Everything that I'd hoped for from the final release of one of the greatest bands around for defining my taste.
