10.31.23 | put in about 8 hours so far. at the final world rn but paused playing it to play alan wake 2. game is the best 2d mario has been since super mario world. i'm over the moon about this one 5/5. i just... i'm legit so upset that yoshi is an easy mode character. i don't think the game needed so many easy mode characters and i don't understand it, esp because yoshi's character model is so damn good. minor gripe tho |

i loved the recent rayman games, but not enough to call them the best of the best. all these other picks are spot on for me though. i'd throw in celeste and dkc tropical freeze but other than that those are the big ones |

11.01.23 | played the first third on acid with mates, holy balls that went hard. we fucking lost it when one of the wonder seed areas swapped the char orientation so you are playing a top-down game running on the background walls.
don't get the idea the game was designed from the ground up for multiplayer, not that i should expect that from a mario, but a fair few levels have been pretty awkward with a group (invisibility stage where p1 gets the privilege of having the camera move with them and a little crown icon above their head while everyone else has to mash jump to figure out where they are via landing dust plume animation, stages where you use the super high jump mfers and accidentally jumping a smidge out of sync can cause anyone that isn't p1 to just die due to camera disappearing up into the air, etc)
that being said, it's so wonderfully clear how much the devs must have loved making this game. presentation and creativity is top notch. also in agreement on the easy chars shindig, i love the feature a lot but wish it was a toggle as opposed to certain chars being hardlocked as the easy ones (u have enough money to make elephant nabbit nintendo)
keen to finish it, having a blast so far
been hella funny having a bunch of japanese players periodically waltzing into our session when we 2p it too. we all got stuck on one puzzle mission trying to find a coin and it was very endearing watching the two randoms with us neurotically checking all the same shit we were in between bouts of mashing crouch and putting up those little standee thingers everywhere |
