| Top 15 Cult of Luna songs
CoL rule. I revisited some of their albums after a while and I just wanna express how awesome they are. All the albums are special and all of them are the best as a whole, but there are stand out tracks. In this list I wanted to include some of their most beloved pieces, but also some of my personal favourites that don't receive much hype. | | 1 | | Cult of Luna Somewhere Along the Highway
DIM
Inexpressible piece of music. Every note of every instrument is right where it should be. Minimalistic but efficient drumming. Climax is insane.
Stand out detail: Those two extended breaks during the final riff are great. I also love those weird electronic samples at the end. | | 2 | | Cult of Luna Vertikal
IN AWE OF
Everything great about Vertikal transformed into 10 minutes of perfection. An epic masterpiece. Climax is insane #2.
Stand out moment: When the melody kicks in at 4:12, aaaargh. | | 3 | | Cult of Luna Somewhere Along the Highway
FINLAND
Yeah, SATM is my favourite album, quite unexpectedly. I love how this song absolutely doesn't care about the classic post-rock/metal gradation stereotype (although CoL use it in other tracks in the best way possible).
Stand out detail: That little synth at 4:03 | | 4 | | Cult of Luna Somewhere Along the Highway
DARK CITY DEAD MAN
You'll probably crucify me for not putting this song on top and I get it. Highest level of epicness possible.
Stand out moment: Those four kicks at the end feel like punches in the head. | | 5 | | Cult of Luna Salvation
WAITING FOR YOU
You wait for six minutes and then what you get is the best section of the album.
Stand out detail: Of course that break at 6:09. | | 6 | | Cult of Luna Eternal Kingdom
GHOST TRAIL
It's impossible not to like this song.
Stand out moment: theeeeee kiiiiiiiiiiiiing | | 7 | | Cult of Luna and Julie Christmas Mariner
CYGNUS
Another great album closer. Amazing collaboration.
Stand out moment: 8:48 booooom | | 8 | | Cult of Luna Eternal Kingdom
CURSE
This is their bleakest songs for me. Every theme used there is so good.
Stand out detail: The organ sound makes the song for me. So tasty. | | 9 | | Cult of Luna The Beyond
CIRCLE
That intro is a tear-jerker. Then the heavy shit comes and it's heavy as hell
Stand out moment: Synth in the intro and then 4:09. Did I tell you I like synths? | | 10 | | Cult of Luna The Beyond
FURTHER
Minimalistic and brutal, harmonically obsessive. Yet another massive closer.
Stand out moment: The groove that comes at 4:33 | | 11 | | Cult of Luna Salvation
ECHOES
It's here thanks to the intro, of course. | | 12 | | Cult of Luna Cult of Luna
SLEEP
I wanted to include all albums and this song is killer. | | 13 | | Cult of Luna Salvation
LEAVE ME HERE
This song stays in me eversince I saw Johaness breaking his guitar and keyboards and jumping into the crowd at Beyond the Redshift concert in London. Best concert closing I have seen, probably ever. | | 14 | | Cult of Luna The Beyond
ARRIVAL
Heaviest album of all time, period. | | 15 | | Cult of Luna Vertikal II
O R O
Simple but effective. Especially the part after 1:42 with its subtle variation of the Vertikal melody. I know there are many tracks that could be on the list instead of this, but this works on me so well. | |

11.15.18 | 1 is 1, but that album has so many highlights it's ridiculous. | Demon of the Fall
11.15.18 | Nice list. Liking some of these picks as well... Finland, Ghost Trail, Circle, Echoes. Also appreciate the inclusion of the underrated Curse. Band is one of my favourites. | osmark86
11.15.18 | No Adrift? that song is fantastic | FurtherDown
11.15.18 | Adrift was close but didn't make it in the end. That little "drum solo" in the middle is fantastic though. | Flugmorph
11.15.18 | great choice for a first list
one of my fav bands right there | PistolPete
11.15.18 | Lot of these I would have that high as well. Ghost Trail, In Awe Of, Waiting For You, and Circles all are my faves from those albums. SATH it's probably a tie between Finland and Back to Chapel Town. I don't really like the first album much. | Relinquished
11.15.18 | first album rules cuz of 'The Sacrifice', 'The Revelation Embodied', 'Hollow', and 'Sleep'
I'd have put 'Crossing Over', 'Vague Illusions', 'Into the Beyond', 'Owlwood', 'Receiver', and 'Deliverance' among these | Sinternet
11.15.18 | no Vicarious Redemption or I: The Weapon? | osmark86
11.15.18 | Both of those are good calls. Furtherman, damn. | Artuma
11.15.18 | i can fuck with this list, nice descriptions too
4 is 1 though | Sniff
11.15.18 | 1. Dark City, Dead Man
2. Dim
3. Finland
4. Back to Chapel Town
5. Thirtyfour
6. And with her came the birds
7. Marching to the heartbeats
8. Dark City, Dead Man
9. Dim
10. Finland
11. Back to Chapel Town
12. Thirtyfour
13. And with her came the birds
14. Marching to the heartbeats
15. Cygnus | Hogzilla
11.16.18 | Any col lists a good list. Eternal Kingdom always ends up in my fall/winter jams. | Minushuman24
11.16.18 | fuck yes, Finland. | WoodeeX
11.16.18 | this band hasn't made a single bad track. Sludge is honestly the best genre of all time, at least within metal. So many consistently excellent bands | FurtherDown
09.25.19 | I wonder how many tracks from Dawn to Fear will make it to this list after some time to digest. I'd say that placing Inland Rain to top ten is almost inevitable. | JohnnyoftheWell
09.25.19 | Agree with almost all of these, missing Receiver, Adrift, Vicarious Redemption and maybe Mute Departure but that's literally it | Demon of the Fall
09.25.19 | @Furtherdown: I place the under/over (for myself) at 2, if I end up with more the oh boy do we have ourselves a beastly album. I’d be surprised if one didn’t make it. | StarlessCore
09.25.19 | Dim really is the best
Not enough salvation too much vertikal
