2000s vs. 2010s
Does anyone have any recommendations for music that is actually new and exciting? I rarely find any artists who emerged from the late 2000s or 2010 onwards and really capture my attention. List includes some of my favorite albums from the first half of the last and this current decade. |
1 | | The Mars Volta Frances the Mute
While Deloused came first I feel like this one is more interesting. |
2 | | SikTh The Trees Are Dead and Dried Out
One of those albums I always come back to and every listen is bringing a smile on my face. |
3 | | Mastodon Leviathan
All of their albums from Remission to Crack The Skye are stunning from start to finish, after that I just don't feel it anymore... Leviathan is probably the most memorable out of them for me personally. |
4 | | Oceansize Effloresce
No one will ever mix prog, alternative rock and post rock in the manner Oceansize did. An all time favorite. |
5 | | Isis Panopticon
The epitome of post metal. Enough said. |
6 | | Queens of the Stone Age Songs for the Deaf
One of the few "older" bands who have actually produced some decent material in recent years, even if it's just one album. |
7 | | The Dillinger Escape Plan Irony Is a Dead Scene
Madness has a name and Mike Patton gave this EP even more of that. |
8 | | Porcupine Tree Deadwing
None of Steven's solo material has ever grabbed me like PT, even though Insurgents was pretty cool opposed to that retro shit that's popping up everywhere lately. |
9 | | Agalloch The Mantle
I haven't listened to Agalloch too often yet, but this and Ashes Against The Grain truly deliver. |
10 | | Tool Lateralus
No comment needed. |
11 | | Uneven Structure Februus
One of the best post 2009 releases I've heard so far. "Djent" doesn't have to suck. |
12 | | The Hotelier Home, Like No Place Is There
Probably my favorite album of 2014. Putting emotion back on the map. |
13 | | The Contortionist Language
Nothing really groundbreaking to be honest, but they actually didn't lose anything by going a little softer and the production of this thing is just incredible! Their vocalist gets a price for not even annoying me once. |
14 | | Piano Salvage Architecture
This is definitely a grower with each listen. I like this much better than Skyharbor or any other of Dan Tompkins projects. This just feels more authentic and individual. |
15 | | The Mire Glass Cathedrals
Well composed post metal in a more compact format. Thumbs up for these lads. |
