1Between The Buried And Me
Colors

This might not be their most groundbreaking, but the most well-rounded and balanced works. From start to finish it has an atmosphere that works perfectly with the critisizing lyrics and musical concepts that are explored. It is also their most consistent album without any tracks that stand back amongst the rest. Every song here is worthy of the grandeur of the collective of songs. Genres are fused without sounding too forced and sterile, not to mention the production which is just dirty and organic enough for this kind of release. Overall one of the greatest Progressive Metal albums ever made and a personal favorite.
2Between The Buried And Me
Alaska

Probably the freshest, most experimental sounding of their records. One can clearly hear the energy the new band members brought on this album. Selkies and Backwards Marathon alone make this album standout amongst their contemporaries, without pushing it too far. Every note they play is there for the sake of the bigger framework. However a couple weak tracks prevent this from being the masterpiece Colors is.
3Between The Buried And Me
The Silent Circus

The first really tightly performed effort the band achieved. Some classic songs that might not be as refined and accurately executed as their later material, but more than make up for it by being far more emotional and touching. Overall there are sadly a couple of weaker tracks though who are just too chaotic without any balance or form for my taste. However tracks like Mordecai, The Need For Repetition and Ad a Dglgmut make for a classic for it's time.
4 Between The Buried And Me
The Parallax II : Future Sequence

More melodic, more clean vocals, a tighter production - that is however at times too cheesy and 80ies sounding (especially the vocals) - make this album different from the previous releases, and that in good but to it's downfall also in a bad way... The Choruses of songs like Lay Your Ghosts To Rest and Melting City are very out of place for the otherwise superb performance. Everything seems tighter, more compact and less spontaneous, which might be liked by a lot of people, I however find it to be a drawback. A shame if you consider the many awe-inspiring guitar lines, clean vocal parts, good as always bass and drum lines and overall structurization of this monumental-seeming record. If I could I would put it tied with The Great Misdirect actually.
5Between The Buried And Me
The Great Misdirect

Many people call this "Between The Dream Theater And Me" and I have to agree to some extent. This is definitely their most tech-driven album, especially if you look at Swim To The Moon. The song arrangements are not as tight as on the Parallax : II and give it a more open and incohesive feeling, which is not bad in my opinion, just different. However Obfuscation is not that great of a basically-opener-track after the brilliant Mirrors and does not have any memorable moments and Fossil Genera is too silly in parts to fit in with the rest. The rest is outstanding work and makes the album still better than 95% of the genre.
6Between The Buried And Me
Between The Buried And Me

While being impressive for a first album, especially considering it's release date, it holds little on the later releases. However songs like Shevanel Cut A Flip and More Of Myself To Kill prove to be still some of the bands classics. Lyrically this album is great too and it honestly pains me to put it last because it's raw energy and the yet unrefined sound of the songs have a certain charm to it that is, very much like The Silent Circus, unique and appealing to someone who prefers a raw production and surprising songwriting over smoothness and all-planned-out song structures.
