| Btbam Albums Best To Worst | 1 | | Between The Buried And Me Colors
This might not be their most groundbreaking, but the most well-rounded and balanced works. From start to finish it has an atmosphere that works perfectly with the critisizing lyrics and musical concepts that are explored. It is also their most consistent album without any tracks that stand back amongst the rest. Every song here is worthy of the grandeur of the collective of songs. Genres are fused without sounding too forced and sterile, not to mention the production which is just dirty and organic enough for this kind of release. Overall one of the greatest Progressive Metal albums ever made and a personal favorite. | 2 | | Between The Buried And Me Alaska
Probably the freshest, most experimental sounding of their records. One can clearly hear the energy the new band members brought on this album. Selkies and Backwards Marathon alone make this album standout amongst their contemporaries, without pushing it too far. Every note they play is there for the sake of the bigger framework. However a couple weak tracks prevent this from being the masterpiece Colors is. | 3 | | Between The Buried And Me The Silent Circus
The first really tightly performed effort the band achieved. Some classic songs that might not be as refined and accurately executed as their later material, but more than make up for it by being far more emotional and touching. Overall there are sadly a couple of weaker tracks though who are just too chaotic without any balance or form for my taste. However tracks like Mordecai, The Need For Repetition and Ad a Dglgmut make for a classic for it's time. | 4 | | Between The Buried And Me The Parallax II : Future Sequence
More melodic, more clean vocals, a tighter production - that is however at times too cheesy and 80ies sounding (especially the vocals) - make this album different from the previous releases, and that in good but to it's downfall also in a bad way... The Choruses of songs like Lay Your Ghosts To Rest and Melting City are very out of place for the otherwise superb performance. Everything seems tighter, more compact and less spontaneous, which might be liked by a lot of people, I however find it to be a drawback. A shame if you consider the many awe-inspiring guitar lines, clean vocal parts, good as always bass and drum lines and overall structurization of this monumental-seeming record. If I could I would put it tied with The Great Misdirect actually. | 5 | | Between The Buried And Me The Great Misdirect
Many people call this "Between The Dream Theater And Me" and I have to agree to some extent. This is definitely their most tech-driven album, especially if you look at Swim To The Moon. The song arrangements are not as tight as on the Parallax : II and give it a more open and incohesive feeling, which is not bad in my opinion, just different. However Obfuscation is not that great of a basically-opener-track after the brilliant Mirrors and does not have any memorable moments and Fossil Genera is too silly in parts to fit in with the rest. The rest is outstanding work and makes the album still better than 95% of the genre. | 6 | | Between The Buried And Me Between The Buried And Me
While being impressive for a first album, especially considering it's release date, it holds little on the later releases. However songs like Shevanel Cut A Flip and More Of Myself To Kill prove to be still some of the bands classics. Lyrically this album is great too and it honestly pains me to put it last because it's raw energy and the yet unrefined sound of the songs have a certain charm to it that is, very much like The Silent Circus, unique and appealing to someone who prefers a raw production and surprising songwriting over smoothness and all-planned-out song structures. | |

05.08.14 | inb4 shitstorm | Eggvander
05.09.14 | I understand your concern to put their self titled last, Futures. I really had to think about that decision, but for me personally their Debut is just much to chaotic and violent. While having some really cool moments it lacks the emotional side that is further explored on TSC. It has honestly been some time since I have listened to the self titled in it's entirety though, so I might do that again ! | Insurrection
05.09.14 | 1 is 3 and bump the others up and thats my ranking. would prob stick parallax between 4 and 5 | demigod!
05.09.14 | 1 is 1 and the rest i dun really care about | SpiritCrusher2
05.09.14 | 1 is 1 and the rest i dun really care about [2] | Eggvander
05.09.14 | I only put Parallax in front of TGM because of Telos, honestly which is one of my favorite tracks of them. Otherwise I find it to be barely better than their self titled. I used to like it a lot more when it first came out but over time I have come to dislike the production and the sometimes really awfully cheesy sounding clean vocals. Luckily we still get tracks like Astral Body and Extremophile Elite to make halfway up for it. Also it barely brings anything new to the table and I hope that we will get more prog once again in their next release ! | Insurrection
05.09.14 | oh by parallax i was referring to the EP not the album | Snake.
05.09.14 | 2 would be 1 if it wasn't for Croakies | NordicMindset
05.09.14 | never listened to them squaids :( | wacknizzle
05.09.14 | Alaska is as good and if not better than Colors you fools. You can't listen to Colors without listening to Silent Circus and Alaska too. Good ranking btw. | Insurrection
05.09.14 | croakies rules tho | Eggvander
05.09.14 | I think we can all agree that the top 3 somehow belong in the top 3. After that it went a little downhill sadly, for BTBAM standards that is. | wacknizzle
05.09.14 | The Parallax II is a great album besides the shitty distorted guitar tone, Tommy's poor harsh vocal performance, and that shitty chorus in Melting City which other than that is an excellent song. Astral Bodies' chorus is kinda lame too | Eggvander
05.09.14 | agreed, something is off on the whole production of that record, although I don't mind the harsh vocals but don't like the clean ones. The chorus in melting city ruins that entire song for me, too bad because the little weird time signature drum and bass build-up part towards the end is fucking amazing. | Snake.
05.09.14 | Hong you should avoid listening to this band at all costs so that you don't end up in a fierce shitstorm with djent/progcore abolitionists | TylerLamberg
05.09.14 | is two really their second best? I was disapointed hardcore by that album. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but I was expecting so much more due to what people were saying about it | Avagantamos

Agreed, I bought it for cheap on a whim, thinking it would be excellent, but I only find myself really paying attention to a select few tracks. The rest of it gets too, shall I say, "wanky" for my liking.. and this is coming from a huge fan of Dream Theater. | MyNameIsPencil
05.09.14 | 6 is 1 for me. I honestly don't know why but whatever. I still need to hear all of the great misdirect and Parallax 2 | Veldin
05.09.14 | I never really got into Alaska that much. I much prefer the Parallax series, because it takes my mind to places most metal doesn't. | ArcticWolf616
05.09.14 | I think 4 should be higher, but 1 is 1 | ManicDemise
06.04.14 | 1, 3, 2, 6, 4, Parallax 1, 5 | Gwyn.
06.04.14 | shit | Evreaia
06.04.14 | BTBAM has good albums? wait whut? | adr
06.04.14 | this is good ranking, switch 2 with 3 and i agree fully. |
