First twelve recs this round have a slot in the tournament. Contest will be electronic for the full seven rounds so don't join if you aren't at least fairly proficient in the genre. Raw Cuts Vol.1

Raw Cut #3

Things kick off with some infectious sampled "yeahs" and a deep house groove digs in. The rhodes piano sounding synth line comes in to add another layer of catchy ear nourishment. Tasteful soul samples weave their way in and out and the song progresses into a nice dancey number. It was a great way to start the competition! 4.2/5

Stress

Next, we have an electro house track that sounds like it was influenced by 80's Carpenter. It glitches around for awhile and begins to build in intensity until resolving with a little classical harpsichord finale. It's a really nice fusion of house and electro but it feels like it wants to and could have explored a bit more territory throughout it's duration. It is still a really cool track that I will most likely revisit. 3.8/5

Younger Than Park - Can't Turn Back (Claude's Mix)

A great groove here and just some great no frills house music overall. It doesn't rely on a whole lot and doesn't need to. The groove plods forward and picks up a bit of atmosphere along the way. This sounds like a house classic if I ever heard one. 4.3/5

Future Imperfect

Here we have a techy tinged house track. The track stays on a similar path building and deconstrucing the same groove all while wonky synth work becomes the basis for movement. It was a solid track but didn't do anything special for me. Enjoyable but forgettable. 3.5/5

This was some really warm chicago house that had some really nice warm paddy synth work that seemed to climb the repeated arpeggiated synth foundation. Sounded a bit like a synthwave track at times. Very enjoyable. 4/5

So Weit Wie Noch Nie

Beautiful washed out house track with a nice sample to compliment. A Kompakt artist that I've yet to check but will be diving in soon. Nicely panned percussion changes the dynamic of the song nicely and that sample fits so well into them warm warping grooves. Hell of a track 4.5/5

236 jour

This had a much more laid back and patient approach than most house. Definitely some techno overtones and a nice subtle ambience to boot. I got pretty lost in the track before it smoothly faded away and enjoyed it quite a bit. 3.9/5

Redit 124

A short wobbly house number from the fairly popular tech house producer Actress. This track wasted no time gettin to business. It felt pretty unstable at times and uncoordinated. I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing. I thought it could have been longer and came off sounding kind of like a mash up of a few really cool ideas rather than a fully fleshed out song but it made for an interesting listen. 3.5/5

Awful Truth

A nice washy atmosphere develops for some time before a laid back lo-fi house groove lays the foundation for some BoC sounding analog synth work. The lightly saturated bass line adds another layer of warmth and suddenly the track seems to take you by the hand only to explore it's beauty and depth. This was beautiful. 4.5/5

This was cool and made me wanna fuck and do shitty drugs. 3.7/4

Temperamental

A house track with some female vocals that reminded me of Massive Attack's guest vocalist on Protection, Tracey Thorn. After about 30 seconds of research I realized it WAS Tracey Thorn so that's an instant plus. She is probably my favorite part of Protection and didn't really know where she had come from. The track, despite being in love with her voice, I thought was a bit paint by numbers for house. It ranged from average to good for me but Tracey... 3.6/4

Above the Clouds

Mm this has a really beefy groove goin on. It's nice n fat but not intrusive. The pretty keys sprinkled over top are quite nice and the bass and clav work together to create some nice funky textures with some airy atmosphere sweeping through. Very nice track. 4.3/5
