The Hookers broke up around 2001, got back together around 2008, and released this thing in 2011. Music sounds a lot like their first album, the Rock'N'Roll Outlaw still sounds like a rough Danzig with no range, but the lyrics are less "I'm an evil fucker" and more Hammer Horror film narration. Another winner. |

This was the debut album from the best band that The Rock'N'Roll Outlaw was in while The Hookers were on hiatus. A bit less punk than The Hookers, more thrash/NWOBHM. Unique sound and strong songwriting. The track "House Of Witchcraft" will have you convinced that the Outlaw is Danzig's evil(er) twin. |

Horror punk, so of course he's gonna sound a little (a lot) like Danzig, but also has a bit of a Pete Steele (Type O Negative) thing going on. Also some death metal influence. Best release from this little known band and "Pictures of Suzy" is way more disturbing than anything from Calabrese or Blitzkid. |

Dagon may sound like Abbath from Immortal, and I guess it's even arguable who writes better riffs (I'd go with Dagon), but when it comes to song and album titles, it's not even close. |

I've read reviews comparing Vanessa Nocera's growls to Angela Gassow's of Arch Enemy. I say she sounds more like Dr. Mikannibal from Sigh. Maybe I'm just saying that 'cause Sigh is one of my fave bands and I really like this debut from Howling a lot (favorite new band). Anyway, Vanessa's got more range. |
