Top 5 Tim Hecker Albums

My favourite musician/producer, I have never loved an artists sound so much. His music is so textured and beautiful. sounding so free yet structured. This guy deserves endless praise, and needs to be heard by more people. Especially people who think 'Music for Airports' is the pinnacle of ambient music.
1Tim Hecker
Virgins

Easily his most direct album, having a large array of acoustic and electronic instrumentation being fed through Tim Hecker's kaleidoscope production. I have listened to this album more times than I care to admit, and it never ceases to be engaging, thought provoking, and entertaining from start to finish. The stand out track is Live Room, but every track has some genius idea to put forward, adding towards the replay factor of the album. Highly recommended as my favourite album.
2Tim Hecker
Ravedeath, 1972

One of the more desolate albums from Hecker's discography, this album is the soundtrack for the post-apocalyptic world. It is full of rich processed organs, pianos, guitar (among others), creating the music equivalent of a derelict cathedral. A great entry way into Tim Hecker's sound, if you only listen to one Tim Hecker track, make it 'In the Fog'.
3Tim Hecker
Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again

Hecker's début album still remains one of his best, it stands out from his other releases by his almost rhythmic use of glitch, and his use of vocal samples. It is a more straight forward approach to his patented ambience, however it is a highly recommended listen as it is no less captivating.
4Tim Hecker
Harmony in Ultraviolet

A fan favourite for Hecker fans, Harmony in Ultraviolet is a distorted drone odyssey which is a must listen for fans of drone metal bands such as Sunn O))). It shows that you don't need a guitar to create heavy music. Though it isn't a one trick pony either, some tracks such as 'Chimera' are heavenly and are right at home accompanying images such as a BBC documentary.
5Tim Hecker
An Imaginary Country

One of Hecker's most underrated albums, An Imaginary Country is one of Hecker's most beautiful albums, really earning that dreamy album title. Though it isn't beautiful in the way Stars of the Lid is beautiful, it still retains Hecker's use of amp overload and distortion. But the distortion creates the feeling of being completely weightless, and it matched with all the synths and delayed piano chords makes this an apt listen for staring at an Arctic tundra.
