| Flying Lotus Ranked
One of my favourite artists, producing some of the best beat, electronic and modern jazz music I have ever heard. Just wanted to put my opinion on his many great albums foreward. | 1 | | Flying Lotus Cosmogramma
This album was Flying Lotus's first major experiment with incorporating a wide variety of influences and sounds, and it worked ridiculously well. Every track creates a cohesive atmosphere with each other, but has memorable sounds, beats and melodies which make them stand out. Even my least favourite track (Table Tennis) has a jaw dropping collection of sounds and a fantastic song structure. | 2 | | Flying Lotus You're Dead!
This may be a new album, but it has had such a large impact on me that I can't help smothering it with praise. The jazz side of this album is fantastic, sounding like a mix of Weather Report and Pharoah Sanders (or just Miles Davis's Bitch's Brew). The way the jazz elements interact with the electronic/hip hop elements keeps both sounds fresh and memorable, yet mesh together into one cohesive 30 minute piece. The songs on this album are easily amongst Flylo's best, Kendrick Lamar's feature in particular is fantastic. I can't wait to see what he does next. | 3 | | Flying Lotus Los Angeles
The first album to show Ellison as a producer to watch, Los Angeles creates a dark brooding atmosphere through fantastic beats, diverse samples, and futuristic synths. It is easily one of the best straight up beat albums ever made, and Flying Lotus's most consistent album in terms of tone and style. | 4 | | Flying Lotus Until the Quiet Comes
An album that is one of Ellison's weakest in comparison to the rest of his discography (in my opinion, I know this is preferred by a lot of people), however it still contains some of the best electronic jazz fusion pieces of his career (Tiny Tortures being one of his best crafted songs). The only downside is the lack of memorability in some areas, but that may be down to this being his most laid back release. | 5 | | Flying Lotus 1983
This album gave us a glimpse into what beat odysseys where to come, creating a more electronic eccentric atmosphere than the artist he took most influence from, J Dilla. At some points it sounds almost like game music, due to the psychedelic nature of the synths, | |

04.11.15 | 1 is for sure 1
Love all of his albums and I think I overall agree with this ranking | Ryus
04.11.15 | 4, 2, 1=3, 5 | AmericanFlagAsh

Have not heard the last two | ChoccyPhilly
04.11.15 | Good ranking but I'd probably have 2 and 1 switched | chinesewhispers
04.11.15 | "4, 2, 1=3, 5"
Holy crap Ryus you already beat me to it | HarrySmalldini97
04.11.15 | Really? I really love You're Dead, but Cosmogramma is really jaw dropping in every way. I think of it as You're Dead's dad | StallionMang

04.11.15 | Anybody who ranks you're dead above cosmogramma is crazy | Ryus
04.11.15 | @chinesewhispers sweet :]
@capnjizz nah son cosmogramma is excellent but o v e r r a t e d | HarrySmalldini97
04.11.15 | Nah man, Cosmogramma is just so well crafted it deserves the hype. Just because loads of people like something doesn't mean it doesn't deserved to be loved by many. Especially if a project is as experimental as this is, in a genre which stagnates so quickly. Overhype is an empty critique | Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.11.15 | so fucking wrong | Ryus
04.11.15 | "Overhype is an empty critique"
no i have other critiques of it and as a result i believe it is overhyped | demigod!
04.11.15 |
3 is my favourite so far. i agree that cosmo's a bit overrated, but i still think its great | chinesewhispers
04.11.15 | As long as 5 is at the bottom there is no incorrect FlyLo ranking. Dude is crazy consistent | oltnabrick
04.11.15 | wrong | RoundOnEndHiInMiddle
04.11.15 | 4 is 1 for me. it's his most subdued for sure, but there is still layers upon layers of sublime stuff to dissect | Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.11.15 | yep 4 is 1.
la and cosmo are tied for two for different reasons. one is the pinnacle of greatness for his old style and is the definitive work for all who tried to emulate him and the other is his explosive change in direction into new uncharted waters.
then you're dead is 3 and 1983 is 4 | oltnabrick
04.11.15 | you used to like LA the most, yah? | Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.12.15 | yeah it is a classic for its genre, but utqc is more of a classic for just flylo's achievement process |
