09.02.13 | It was really tough between Colors and The Great Misdirect.
"Between them". See what I did there? |

09.02.13 | Bump 3 and 4 up to 2 and 3 and you've got a deal. Great Misdirect was the start of their downfall. |
Artuma
09.02.13 | great misdirect is their best tho |
ILJ
09.02.13 | 5 is their best |
MikeC26
09.02.13 | nah 5 sucks |
MAGNIFICENT
09.02.13 | I'm actually listening to 5 right now. It's really an up and down rating for me so I'm trying to have a permanent rating for it. Sometimes it bores me to death, other tmes it's such an amazing journey. |
Millstone
09.02.13 | Swim to the Moon includes some of Tommy's best vocals. |
MrxSelfxDestruct
09.02.13 | Colors = Parallax 2 > Alaska > The Great Misdirect > Silent Circus = Parallax 1 > BTBAM |
NapalmCrusader
09.02.13 | Needs the first part of parallax and the seconds deserve a higher position |
MAGNIFICENT
09.02.13 | Yep, listened to The Parallax II one more time. Such a journey, definately a 5 and in the top 3 BTBAM
records.
Hypersleep Dialogues is an EP, I only ranked albums in this list. It's amazing, though. |
MrxSelfxDestruct
09.02.13 | ^ same thing happened to me. Glanced over it and wasn't hugely taken aback. The moment I invested myself it blew me away. |
MAGNIFICENT
09.02.13 | Exactly! I'm actually thinking of giving it the number 1 spot, but damn, Colors. |
DurzoBlint
09.02.13 | 5 should be 2. |
MrxSelfxDestruct
09.02.13 | I agree with this list minus TGM being better than Alaska |
Tyrael
09.02.13 | All their shit is amazing except for s/t which is still great |

09.02.13 | Awww what, you changed it already. |

09.02.13 | Colors then Alaska. I don't really care about the rest |
MAGNIFICENT
09.02.13 | Yeah, I saw your ranking, you commented here. They're pretty close though, Alaska is amazing as well but feels a little disjointed. Completely agreed with Tyrael, and DurzoBlint, I like The Silent Circus a lot too, it's up to par with Alaska and TGM, but Tommy's growls and screams weren't that good of a time. Too many ideas, some actually worked quite well but there was room for improvement. |
PitchforkArms
09.02.13 | Specular reflection gives me a weird feeling in my gut (a good one) that nearly no other song can do. Amazing group, under-loved by this site. Good list though |
JokineAugustus
09.02.13 | Alaska is best |
Yuli
09.02.13 | The Great Misdirect > Colors > Alaska >> Parallax II >> Silent Circus >>>> Self-titled
The top three are a bit interchangable for me, but the rest fall flat for a number of reasons. |
FearThyEvil
09.02.13 | Colors, Alaska, TGM, Parallax II, Silent Circus, S/t, Parallax I |
Yuli
09.02.13 | By the way yeah, MAGNIFICENT where would you list Parallax I? I'd say it's tighter than II, maybe a tier under Alaska in their overall discog |
apert
09.02.13 | Colors>Alaska> TGM > Parallax 2 > TSC > self titled |
MAGNIFICENT
09.03.13 | Jacob, I'd put Hypersleep Dialogues somewhere between Parallax II and TGM, either above or under TGM. Parallax II is more than just a record, it's a musical world if you lend your ears 110% to it. Melting City and Silent Flight Parliament used to bore me to death but they're growing on me a lot, as the rest of the album. It's really an audio sensation as if you were in space, followed by amazing musicianship. :) |
Yuli
09.03.13 | I definitely get your enthusiasm for II, and I admire it too. I hear a few things in it I wouldn't have minded a few years ago-- Rogers' dry vocals, kinda cut-and-paste interludes, and I guess the style doesn't appeal to me as much these days. Solid release for what it is, though. |
MAGNIFICENT
09.03.13 | And I get your dissappointment at it as well. It's a long record, Between The Buried And Me take the "epic", cinematic, almost dramatic approach to their music. It's definately a grower. |
MAGNIFICENT
09.03.13 | Futures, it makes ME sad as well buddy. Simply because it could be so much more if more jointed and cohesive and if Tommy's gutural vocals were the way they are today. Too over the place, but it's probably BTBAM's album with more potential in it. Look at "Mordecai", or "Ad A Dglgmut", or "Aesthetic". Those are ideas that worked so well, and if only the whole album lived uo to those three songs. |
Inferis
09.03.13 | I think people ignore the EP too much when ranking this band. Lunar Wilderness and Specular Reflection are two of their best songs. |
MAGNIFICENT
09.03.13 | Inferis, definately some of the best in the band's catalogue. I did not consider EP's in here, I ranked the albums, but yes, Hypersleep Dialogues is amazing, and almost as amazing as Future Sequence.
Futures, yes, my favorite BTBAM song as well (at least for now, the list takes some changes sometimes). I agree, it is different all the way and all over the place. Too all over the place, actually. It's a blending of cohesive ideas that weren't applied in a cohesive way, for me. But I totally see where you come from. |
Yuli
09.03.13 | Agreed-- in particular, Lunar Wilderness is not cohesive at all actually. I really dislike that change about a minute and a half through. I do think the EP had a more uniform musical agenda, though, which was refreshing. |
MAGNIFICENT
09.03.13 | Omaha, it lacks some cohesiveness, indeed, but by no means a terrible or bad song, I don't think Between The Buried And Me ever created a bad song (self-titled aside). But Specular Reflection, it's another talk right there, what a song. |
MAGNIFICENT
09.03.13 | Ended listening to Parallax II again. It felt so weird this time. It's an album that is so great if you dive into the atmosphere but boring if you meticulously dig into the music itself. Melting City and Silent Flight Parliament bored me to death. I'm really starting to agree with Jacob about the taking/not taking the album seriously. |
DotNine
09.03.13 | No. Just no. You have Alaska below TGM, retarded. |
MAGNIFICENT
09.03.13 | Yes I do! It's a matter of taste, you know? Even someone retarded would know that, mate! |
DotNine
09.03.13 | Nothing to do with "taste". It's almost Universal that Alaska > TGM or anything past that. |
TheSpaceMan
09.03.13 | "354126 kthxbai"
pretty much agreed, just swap colors with TSC |
DotNine
09.03.13 | Another BTBAM fan who doesn't know his shit. |
MrxSelfxDestruct
09.03.13 | You're an arrogant ignoramus with what I'm assuming is probably a laughable background in music. (You gave northlane a higher score than protest the hero and you have the balls to suggest that something can be universally right or wrong in music? I lack the words to describe how retarded that is)
For the record though, Alaska > TGM
And The Parallax II is amazing atmospherically as well as instrumentally. Dive into it from any perspective and its phenomenal. |
DurzoBlint
09.03.13 | Come on bump 4 higher... alaska is weaker. |
MAGNIFICENT
09.04.13 | DotNine, nothing is universal, it's not a fact, it's only a matter of opinion. And then I'm retarded. Sure!
The list takes a lot of changes, it's really tough on me between Alaska and The Great Misdirect, different records, TGM is more experimental and that makes it interesting, although it is a little tedious thanks to Swim To The Moon (one of my favorite BTBAM songs ever, but after so much in TGM it just makes the album really long). |
MAGNIFICENT
09.04.13 | And Durzo, I so wanted to do that, I just have to get used to that all-over-the-place-ness of The Slient Circus. It's growing constantly on me, perhaps it'll grow more, I don't know. |
