Ecksavie
08.14.13 | @snerefedsav: No
Not particularly imaginary list, but it's hard to argue with the big names. Also, what is it with people calling DEP, Converge, Botch, etc. metalcore? I mean, really? Why not labelling -everything- metalcore and be done with it. |
FearThyEvil
08.14.13 | http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=444563&listid=129041 Just try this list |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @Ecksavie: Well, I don't listen to a lot of metalcore, just these five and August Burns Red. And I don't know why either, those bands aren't really metalcore. |
ZippaThaRippa
08.14.13 | Metalcore? This guy listens to shitty music. |
climactic
08.14.13 | mathcore is a stupid genre tag |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @FearThyEvil9: Thanks for the link, now I can search up some of those bands that I don't know that are on that list. |
kingjulian
08.14.13 | August Burns Red. Your list has bad bands on it. |
ZippaThaRippa
08.14.13 | 3-5 are complete shit. All that Remains has one good album and they've been garbage ever since. Parkway Drive are still good. Heaven Shall Burn are still good. |
FearThyEvil
08.14.13 | 1 and 3 are good but the rest are really eh. |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @climactic: It's an odd sounding genre name, for sure. |
climactic
08.14.13 | "metalcore" is a really diverse genre i mean there are 3 distinct styles that all fall under that tag |
ZippaThaRippa
08.14.13 | elaborate |
wacknizzle
08.14.13 | dude metalcore is rock n roll, c'mon we discussed this |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | If you like this kind of stuff, I'd suggest these:
1. This Or The Apocalypse - Haunt What's Left
2. The Devil Wears Prada - Zombie
3. In Hearts Wake - Divination
4. Texas In July - Texas In July
5. War Of Ages - Eternal
6. The Soulless - Isolated
7. Unearth - The March
8. Scarlet - Cult Classic
9. The Sorrow - Blessing From A Blackened Sky
10. Hopesfall - The Satellite Years |
FearThyEvil
08.14.13 | ^All of those suck horribly except Scarlet and Unearth and that is also Unearth's worst album. He just added in Hopesfall too so that's another good one. |
climactic
08.14.13 | well theres shit like converge, shai hulud, 7a7p, PTW etc which is actually a mix of METAL and HARDCORE
then there's ABR, AILD, parkway drive style which is pretty much melo-death with hardcore vocals and breakdowns
and then there's the shit....attack attack, emmure and that scenie stuff |
ZippaThaRippa
08.14.13 | Nah man, Unearth is still fucking terrible |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @Jacquibim: Why did you copy and paste my description and list?
@Ecksavie: Will do, but I'm going to skip The Devil Wears Prada and Texas In July. Those two bands I don't care for. |
FearThyEvil
08.14.13 | ABR,AILD, and Parkway Drive melo-death? What are smoking? Heaven Shall Burn and Darkest Hour do the melo-death metalcore thing. |
ZippaThaRippa
08.14.13 | Hmmm, I guess I just always considered Converge and Shai Hulud to be straight hardcore. Or a combination of hardcore and grind in Converge's case.
I can see where you're coming from though. Metalcore has always been a pretty misleading genre. |
climactic
08.14.13 | you could even argue there's a 4th style which is the super technical, melodic "djenty" style (elitist, volumes, after the burial) |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | @FearThyEvil9: The March might not be their best, but it's the closest to what he has said to like. Let him start from there
and see where it takes him.
@Blast: TDWP is generally horrendapigs, but Zombie was a rare movement of lucidity for the band. Pretty cool shit, in my
opinion. Anyway, happy trails man. |
FearThyEvil
08.14.13 | Nah man, Unearth is still fucking terrible
Not the Oncoming Storm. |
wacknizzle
08.14.13 | melodic/dissonant/math/metallic hardcore/deathcore-ish metalcore |
climactic
08.14.13 | "ABR,AILD, and Parkway Drive melo-death? What are smoking? Heaven Shall Burn and Darkest Hour do the melo-death metalcore thing."
didnt say they WERE melodeath but yea, those bands borrow HEAVILY from the gothenberg sound. all those minor-key riffs are straight from melodeath |
climactic
08.14.13 | heaven shall burn and darkest hour lean more towards melodeath than they do metalcore. other way around for those other bands |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @climactic: I agree with you that Heaven Shall Burn are a bit more melodic death metal, but i'm not quite sure about Darkest Hour, as I don't listen to them much. |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | Darkest Hour's new album is pretty fucking bad ass. You should check it out. I mean, listen to this shit:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m06ayCYCIJQ |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @Ecksavie: Isn't their newest release still The Human Romance? |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | It is. I suppose it's not that "new" anymore. It's solid though. |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @Ecksavie: OK, just making sure. Thanks for the link, I'll give it a full listen. |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | Enjoy :) |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | Actually, also get Pass the Flask from The Bled; you might dig it. |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @Ecksavie: All right, I'll check that out as well. |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | You will definitely dig the "Sounds of Sulfur" track on there. |
FearThyEvil
08.14.13 | All the stuff being mentioned is basically on that list I sent you that I made. Not the exact albums per say but the bands. |
demigod!
08.14.13 | listen to Integrity |
DrHouseSchuldiner
08.14.13 | listen to Botch bro |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @Ecksavie: I hope I will.
@FearThyEvil9: OK, thanks for the list.
@demigod93 and DrHouseSchuldiner: Thanks for the recommendations! |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | @FearThyEvil9: It's a pretty conclusive list, but I find it kind of uses "metalcore" rather loosely. I'd probably label a lot of stuff on there as simply hardcore or mathcore. Still, mostly good stuff. |
FearThyEvil
08.14.13 | Botch is the shit and probably my favorite metalcore band. |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | Botch is great, but hardly metalcore.
I just remembered a song y'all will dig from some obscure split: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHJ5IJmNEOc |
ZippaThaRippa
08.14.13 | Late to the discussion but as for Darkest Hour, they're solidly melodic death metal. They are actually credited as being one of the pioneering bands of the Gothenburg sound despite being an American band. They're not so much metalcore as they are the band that inspired the more melodic metalcore bands.
Heaven Shall Burn definitely has metalcore leanings but they take their influences from melodic death metal bands like Edge of Sanity, who they're obviously found of. |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | Aye, I'm inclined to agree with both. However, that doesn't take away the fact that both are great bands. I also love HSB's cover of Black Tears. ;) |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @ZippaThaRippa: I was just listening to Darkest Hour and I do agree with them being melodic death metal, although they also sound a bit metalcore(ish). I also agree with the Heaven Shall Burn thing as well. |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @Ecksavie: Agreed, that cover is amazing! |

08.14.13 | @ZippaThaRippa: Animosity is technical death metal/deathcore. |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | Here we go with the labelling. ;) |
ZippaThaRippa
08.14.13 | It doesn't matter because Animosity is better than anything that has been mentioned in this list so far. |
JokineAugustus
08.14.13 | Zao> Ebrything in exsistance |

08.14.13 | I would be inclined to disagree with both of you, but that's a matter of taste I suppose. |

BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @SIMBOLIC: A lot of us here do. |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | Sure. As long as I get to take your Animosity CDs to the locker. Got to have some stuff to jam. ;) |
ZippaThaRippa
08.14.13 | Y'all must be the younger crowd. I was into this stuff when I was a wee young sputniker. |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @ZippaThaRipper: Hey, I may be 17, but I like Animosity and I mostly listen to old-school thrash and death metal. |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | Nah, metalcore is just fun. The only reason people diss this stuff is because sputnik breeds elitism and metalcore isn't particularly "complex" music. But it's fun, so fuck 'em. |
ZippaThaRippa
08.14.13 | Nothing wrong with it. We all learn and grow. I joined when I was 14 and my favorite bands were Slipknot and Escape the Fate. Shine the fuck on. |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | Amen. I've been lurking the shit out of this website for a long time, thought I'd finally make the jump. Still, metalcore is a genre people love to hate. |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @Ecksavie: Agreed, metalcore is fun to listen too.
|
ZippaThaRippa
08.14.13 | Can you blame them? A good deal of metalcore's most popular bands are generic shitbuckets with swoopy haircuts and lazy chug-a-minute riffs. |
JokineAugustus
08.14.13 | Btw, Zao influenced As I Lay Dying a lot. |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.14.13 | @ZippaThaRippa: Like Miss May I and shit. |
Ecksavie
08.14.13 | No, of course not, but equally, a lot of death metal or black metal's popular bands are generic shitbuckets with long hair and retarded outfits who all play the same shitty blast beats and have the same god awful vocals. Most of us are not on here for the generic bands though. Besides, it's only those ignorant and less enlightened plebs who listen to that shit anyway, in any genre. ;) |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.15.13 | @Ecksavie: It's like how most of the 80's thrash metal bands had long hair and "tough" guy attitudes. That seemed to be a big trend back then. |
Ecksavie
08.15.13 | Exactly. Mediocrity galore. |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.15.13 | @Ecksavie: Yeah, but if the band sounds good, who cares right? |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.15.13 | @Jacquibim: No, I haven't actually. Are they good? |

BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.15.13 | @Jacquibim: OK at least you like HSB. I mean, how can anyone NOT like them! They're amazing! |

JokineAugustus
08.15.13 | Wtf? Ya they are, unless you want to say they're deathcore or "progressive metal". And what's up with people saying mathcore isn't metalcore? That's like saying Tomatoes aren't fruit. |
Hawks
08.15.13 | "Born Of Osiris - The Discovery"
No. |
BlastRiffsBeatTechno
08.15.13 | @JokineAugustus: No, really they're not metalcore at all! More like progressive metal or something like that. |
