Top 5 Albums Of 2013 Thus Far
my personal favorite and what I consider best albums from the year |
1 | | James Blake Overgrown
The best album of 2013 hands down. Miles ahead of his self-titled debut in terms of song
structure, melodies, and instrumentation. Blake finally allows his voice, the real highlight of
the album, to shine through without all the voice effects masking it. Retrograde, Life Round
Here, and Digital Lion are all TOTY contenders for me, but this whole album is a pleasure to
listen to from start to finish. |
2 | | Polyenso One Big Particular Loop
Great album. Who cares if they ride the coattails of Radiohead? Radiohead's an
amazing band and so are these guys. Think Radiohead's "Life in a Glass House" +
some OK Computer guitar driven alt rock with Kid A atmospherics and electronic
blips. Counting Fish and Push are standouts but the whole album is gold. |
3 | | Moving Mountains Moving Mountains
Their self-titled release has eased on the post-rock epics and has in its place
presented well-crafted atmospheric indie rock. Think Thrice cirque Alchemy Index
Air and Earth with a little Fire and Water thrown in for good measure. Excellent
production doesn't hurt either. |
4 | | Moderat II
Don't understand the flack for this album. Really dig the atmosphere in tracks like
"MIlk" and "Last Time". Apparat really crafts an enjoyable electronic/trance/house
album that is not only fun to listen to but also genuinely quality work. |
5 | | Darkside Psychic
A wonderfully spacey and dark album. I didn't care too much for Jaar's work before this album,
but this one is different; Harrington's guitar work complements what would otherwise be pretty
standard electronic music. Jaar's voice really shines on "The Only Shrine I've Ever Seen" and
"Heart" is beautiful as well. Recommended to anyone who enjoys atmospheric rock or electronic
music. |
