| The Freaking Coolest Albums
The coolest, not necessarily the best, albums ever made, in my opinion. I know there are tons of rrother lists out rthere, but I hope you all will agree. | 10 | | A Tribe Called Quest The Low End Theory
While I'm not too into rap, especially since mainstream hip-hop neutered it, this
jazz-rap fusion record was the all time high for the rap group. The mostly clean
lyrics and laid-back flow is one of the better examples of how mature, intelligent
rap should be executed. | 9 | | Deftones White Pony
The band isn't on par with the other artists on the list, but the album certainly is.
This sonic plane of dreamy vocals, haunting guitars and creepy subject matters
makes it one of the best records in the modern era of music. Every song is so
shadowy, so sinister, so...perfect. One of my favorite records of all time. | 8 | | Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet
My favorite Stones album. The fact that it starts off with the ever-evil "Sympathy
for the Devil" earns it a spot on this list. The country tunes are impeccable and
drowsy, and the cruel, dark "Stray Cat Blues" is the highlight of the album. | 7 | | Bob Dylan Blonde On Blonde
Dylan's best work, honestly. Every last song is incredible. Folk has always had a
soft spot in my heart, and when Dylan brings in those lyrics from "Visions of Johanna", it has me
hooked. If this list were of BEST albums, this would be in first, hands down. | 6 | | Joy Division Unknown Pleasures
Yes, it seems most of this list is a compilation of dark, brooding albums. Unknown
Pleasures would top that kind of list, with its doom-stricken guitar riffs and wild,
punching drumming. Ian Curtis' off-key crooning is what sells the record, along with
his insightful, cathartic lyrics. | 5 | | Iggy Pop The Idiot
Low key, looming and drug drenched. Iggy's lyrics creep me out, and "Dum Dum
Boys" sticks with you like a restless spirit, warning of the fall of an epic band. | 4 | | Tonight's the Night Neil Young
One of the saddest, most brilliant folk albums out there. It's a drunken, sprawling
masterpiece, contained in the gloom of misery, exemplified by the front cover. A
black, black album. | 3 | | Miles Davis Get Up With It
The freaking half-hour long tracks, "He Loved Him Madly" and "Calypso Frelimo". It's
a deep, depressing album in fusion jazz. One of the best albums of the 70s. Better
than Bitches Brew in my opinion. Just listen to "Rated X' and try not to imagine
yourself in a sexual nightmare. | 2 | | Band of Gypsys Band of Gypsys
The best solo ever performed on a guitar (Machine Gun), and one of the best live
albums ever. Every single song on this LP is perfect. | 1 | | Velvet Underground Velvet Underground and Nico
It influenced hundreds of bands that sprouted out of decades to come. And there's
a banana on the front. Ugly, droning and eerie, it'll either leave you hooked or have
you never listen to it again. | |
