If someone hears 10 albums from one specific genre and likes none of them he's going to have a pretty clear idea of the genre, maybe not in terms of how good it could possibly be but what it has to offer for the most part. Granted the reactions and comments you describe stem from idiocy and ignorance so they'll never go away but you should at least understand when someone like that treats a rec from that genre with suspicion

Thanntos 04.18.12	As much as I have branched out in the past few years, pretty much listening to every type of genre, not just Metal, like I had in 09', I still tend to avoid a few genres that I've just had bad experience with. IE knowing most bands in that genre are shit and don't have interest in anymore because of that. Deathcore/Grind/Power/Nu/Industrial. It's not being 'douchey'. It's just for a decade now of listening to a LOT of music, and knowing my likes, I know what to stay away from now. Example: I wont listen to the new Dragonforce, Napalm Death or Overkill albums....simply because I doubt i'll like it. I just stick to Black/Death/Sludge/Progressive ect now.

CrimsonLies 04.29.12	I can understand why a lot of metalheads hate deathcore and with Deviant, I've listened to more than enough deathcore bands to have an idea of what it has to offer but I couldn't stand deathcore till I heard 1 & 3 and now they have become one of my favorite bands. Music is constantly changing so there's always going to be something that every genre has to offer.
