Sputnik Account Evolution

Sputnik has been changing my music tastes since the fall of 2008. Here is the hard evidence.
1Queens Of The Stone Age
Songs For The Deaf

TremorChrist (Joined 09-28-08) - I didn't actually join this site September 2011. My real introduction stems from the fall of
'08 under the name "TremorChrist" taken from my old favorite Pearl Jam song. I was a big fan of QOTSA at the time which
you can see by my profile pic featuring Josh Homme lookin' spiff and the high ratings for most of their discography. I
hardly knew anything about downloading music from the internet so 98% of my music library was from CDs I had
borrowed (mainly from my uncle). The other 2% were MP3s I had downloaded individually from multiple sites found in
Google searches. I didn't branch out much from my musical tastes; I just rated the albums I owned or had listened to. I
thought it was cool to see my tastes being put into a chart and to have a list of my music on an online profile. I only read
reviews for albums I had listened to being curious as to seeing what others thought of the albums I liked.

2Hot Cross
Cryonics

Comrade (Joined 11-20-08) - Not too long after signing up as TremorChrist, I decided I wanted to change my name
as I started listening to bands like Coheed & Cambria and Protest the Hero. I discovered how to download full
albums from online storage sites and started officially expanding my tastes in music. It was post-rock legends
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (and an interesting concept review by a Mr. Chan) that allowed me to appreciate more
abstract styles of music (at least to me at the time), to not stay secluded in the small box of mainstream rock and
hip-hop and discover new forms of art. That's not really saying much if you look at my ratings, however, with some
really embarrassing titles being labeled "superb." I still hadn't fully bursted from my cacoon; nevertheless, bands like
Hot Cross and Neutral Milk Hotel were the hammer and chisel necessary to make my escape.

Ryanarchy (Joined 07-26-09) - Awesome username, right? Almost a year after sporting my first Sputnik account, I
conjured up "Ryanacrhy" and started listening to a lot of popular bands on Sputnik like Brand New, Between the
Buried and Me, and At the Drive-In. This may be the most important phase for me as I really started to branch out. You
can even see bands like Off Minor, Botch, and Orchid rated as "classic"--bands I thought I'd never listen to back in
middle school. I became more and more fascinated with music and my library grew bigger and bigger. I started to find
older gems like the Descendents and Kyuss which I would've been exposed to at a younger age if, say, my uncle had
those albums in his collection. I probably would have enjoyed them even more thoroughly than I do today. (sputnikmusic.com/profile.php?name=ryanarchy)
4Modern Life Is War
Witness

Surgeonfish (Joined 11-16-09) - "Surgeonfish" was just another account I created after getting bored of the username
"Ryanarchy." Since I wasn't a popular user, all of these name changes were under the radar. Nobody missed me after I
disappeared from one account and nobody knew I was the same person under a new one. I can't remember much from
my time as "Surgeonfish" but I can see there was a further progression of tastes with a larger interest in hardcore and
emo bands. Oh, how much I loved BTBAM. (sputnikmusic.com/profile.php?name=surgeonfish)
5Every Time I Die
The Big Dirty

RebelWithoutApplause (Joined 03-21-10) - The day "Surgeonfish" was last active was the day I signed up as
"RebelWithoutApplause." I thought I was going to stick with this name for sure and rate all of my albums in library as
honestly as I could. Well soon enough, I got bored. I remember having about 500 or so ratings that I ended up deleting
after creating my next moniker since the two accounts' charts were too identical that it seemed obvious they were "alts"
(I actually thought it mattered at the time). I wrote my first review on Sputnik for "A Collection of Songs" by The Kodan
Armada under this account which I still regret writing to this day. I made the same progress as I did with the two
previous accounts regarding tastes in music but I don't have any real proof with all my ratings having beend. (sputnikmusic.com/profile.php?name=rebelwithoutapplause)

Filosofem

deathofasalesman (Joined 09-13-10) - And here I am today, deathofasalesman. I'm more than positive that I am sticking with
this account for the rest of Sputnik's existence. Even though I'm missing about 400 albums from my iTunes library, I have been
trying to rate every album I own or have heard as honestly as I can (with the exception of a few) and see how my current
tastes look on the classic pie chart. I have been more involved in the Sputnik community with this account than I have ever
done in any of my previous accounts. I must admit, however, it was weird of me to post my first list as a false "Hey! I'm new
here!" list. Maybe after making several accounts of the years I started to think I was actually a different person from before.
Perhaps I am though. All I can say after all this is that I am grateful to have been a part of this website and allowing me to
expand my music tastes, almost subconsciously, and to see the progress that I have made over the years. Thank you. (sputnikmusic.com/profile.php?name=deathofasalesman)
