| Modern Bands That Will Be Influences For The Next Generation
Bands (from the 90s to the present) who are going to be major influences for the shaping of rock in the coming ages. | 1 | Nirvana
Already influencing nearly every band in rock today, Nirvana is going to be a timeless model for the shape of rock to come | 2 | Muse
Ironic that Muse would come before Radiohead on the list, but, it seems that they've outran their idols. With four albums under their belt as of now, Muse is a hit throughout the musical world, all of their albums considered classics already. | 3 | Radiohead
Like Nirvana, Radiohead has influenced countless bands, notably Muse and many brit-pop bands. With their eccentric tastes and styles, Radiohead's devoted imitators have come to be driving forces in the musical world | 4 | Coheed and Cambria
Blending styles into an amazing sound, Coheed and Cambria is an amazing band whose work will not soon be forgotten for all of its contributions to the musical world | 5 | Smashing Pumpkins
With many bands claiming their influence already, The Smashing Pumpkins are sure to be a great influence for the future of rock | 6 | My Chemical Romance
Like it or not, My Chemical Romance is a famous band with millions of fans, and their contributions to rock won't soon be forgotten. | 7 | Green Day
You'll have noticed by now, this list is not in any particular order, because if it was Green Day would only be behind Nirvana. With a career reaching back to 1989, Green Day has been around for over a decade and looks to be staying for a while; their songs are hits, their faces are instantly recognized, their albums are huge. Green Day won't be soon forgotten, for good or bad. | 8 | Glassjaw
A bit of a black sheep, Glassjaw is definitely an influential band. Spawning "Worship and Tribute", an amazing hardcore album, Glassjaw has influenced many bands, notably almost every band in the Long Island scene and the New Jersey scene as well. While it has a small album count, Glassjaw has a huge sound and is sure to remain a powerful influence for future hardcore rockers. (Or perhaps this is all wishful thinking on my part) | 9 | Thursday
With more than four albums to their credit, Thursday is the epitome of NJ rock, and has been considered the essential hardcore/emo band. Their music has influenced thousands of bands, including My Chemical Romance, and their sound has been endlessly copied. Along with Thrice and Taking Back Sunday, Thursday is one of the leaders of the hardcore/emo scene, and their music won't be lost to the world as oh so many of their followers' will. | 10 | Thrice
(The perfect lead-in from the last choice). Thrice is an amazing band to listen to. Their songs are perfectly executed and their sound is original. They're sure to remain favorites. | 11 | Taking Back Sunday
Like it or not, Taking Back Sunday is the epitome of Long Island Rock, just as Thursday is for NJ Rock. They embody the spirit, the catchy lyrics, and the oh so emo attitude that thousands have strived to emulate. | 12 | The White Stripes
With their newest album a smash success and many others to their name, The White Stripes are sure to remain favorites for decades to come. | 13 | Pantera
Already shaping hard rock and metal today, since Pantera's career reaches to the 2000s, their qualified for this spot, definitely. Pantera is influencing big metal today, and surely will continue to. | 14 | At the Drive-in
An amazing band that spawned the Mars Volta and Sparta, two more amazing bands, At The Drive-In made amazing records all the way through their career, and they surely won't be soon forgotten. | 15 | Chiodos
Yeah, I said it. They're popular, they're famous, they're the leader of the metalishkindahardcorishscreamoishemo scene, and they're going to be the idols of music's next great acts. | 16 | UnderOATH
Another one I might get attacked for, but I'm basing this off their two newest albums. The band is poppish on one and hardcore on the other; both are good if you're open enough to them. The band has made a name for themselves after refusing major label coverage and openly expressing their religion, while maintaining great musicianship and awesome songs. Let's hope future bands will see these guys as true people to look up to. | 17 | System of a Down
With 3 amazing releases (and others I'll exclude) such as their amazing first eponymous album, System of a Down is a favorite for many, and their music is sure to be imitated. | 18 | Avenged Sevenfold
ZOMG THEY AWESOME!.....no, not really. But, they're famous, they've made some okay songs, and, if not for the fanboys and girls, they'd be a band everyone could enjoy. No doubt, those fanboys will grow up to make some Vengeful music. | 19 | The Used
Again, not a favorite for many, but they're amazingly well played on TVs and Radios (where they play this style, of course). The Used has made some good albums, and they're sure to be influences for the next generation | 20 | Protest The Hero
Definitely wishful thinking, but, I can dream, right? Combining hardcore and emo vocals with awesome metal riffs, Protest the Hero is every listener to metal and emo's dream come true. Their style is unmatched and their power is amazing. Hopefully we'll get some bands that strive for this perfection. | |

09.09.07 | I'd say most of them won't be shaping rock for the next years just because they are all mainstream bands and usually the lesser known, original bands will do that (as we have seen in the past -> Suicide, Wipers etc.). I could see Animal Collective spawning tons of other bands acting like that in mainstream rock maybe. But that's a long shot. How about you wait a couple of years and see. | Altmer
09.09.07 | I think Pantera has already influenced a slew of bands. | AtavanHalen
09.09.07 | Chiodos??? | Crysis
09.09.07 | If Underoath, Coheed And Cambria, System of A Down, and A7X influnce bands in the future I'm going to kill myself because every band would suck. | LifeInABox
09.09.07 | crysis ftw tbh | Electric City
09.09.07 | If Chiodos influences anyone, we're in a heap of trouble. Good idea for a list, but Nirvana's already had it's group of copycats, as have some of these bands. Otherwise, good list. | BallsToTheWall
09.09.07 | At The Gates. | burton.and.gas
09.09.07 | a few of these bands began their heyday in the 90s and alreayd influence ppl toda, for e.g nirvana have spawned many grunge copyists, as have greenday spawned too many pop punk bands. The same sort fo applies to At the Drive-in on a more cult level. | Shadius
09.09.07 | All of those top 7, besides maybe My Chemical Romance, have already influenced tons and tons of bands, but I agree, they will continue to do so in the future. Most of those bands are responsible or highly involved in whole movements in music, mainstream or otherwise. | Jimmy
09.09.07 | if you ask me, the smashing pumpkins have influenced more bands than any other 90's bands. | AmericnZero02
09.09.07 | Thats a pretty interesting idea. 30 years from now I doubt very many bands will be saying they were influenecd by bands like Zepplin anymore. | Doppelganger
09.09.07 | 1, 2, 5, 7, and 14 are already largely influential. | Slaytan
09.09.07 | I think this list has a very cool concept, however I doubt bands like Thursday will really be influencing people a decade or so. | Yazz_Flute
09.09.07 | lol, I would bet that A7X would influence many bands actually. I enjoy them, so that's not really a bad thing for me, SOAD is also great here, but they have their own original style, I can't really think of another band that's really like them.
If anybody really is influenced by bands like 11,15,19, they really suck. | BallsToTheWall
09.10.07 | forgot the most important one. For better or worse DANZIG has been pretty much idolized on cult like prportions. | SylentEcho
09.10.07 | At The Gates, Machine Head. | BallsToTheWall
09.10.07 | Nightwish,At The Gates, and Nightwish have pretty much gave birth to a slew of imposters. | Dis_Con_Nec_Ted
09.13.07 | 18 = wrong
1,2 & 17 are great. |
