Tyrannic 03.10.12	there is an established human nature. using nature, though, is a weird word cause it doesn't really have a definition that sticks well. so if you wanna talk about the nature, you might as well talk about human's function. the only thing that makes humans unique (from other creatures) is their rationality (although we don't even know if that's true, considering dolphins and whatever), so it would make sense that rationality is part of that function (in so far as we currently know). also, if i'm not mistaken, i'm pretty sure babies (upon birth) have rationality, so to say that human nature is empty from the beginning is just false.

Viewing things that are wrong as an oppertunity to figur out the puzzle and fix it both helps me cope and gives me a sense of direction. A challenge to overcome which gives meaning to my life and life in general. Then again, that might only work for me.

I am trying to do well in college so I can get a degree and contribute to the solution of problems I can fix (not changing the political system, I am way too pragmatist for that). He takes disparate ideas and jams them under the umbrella of empathy, as if it's some innate reality of our lives. Certainly empathy plays a role in human identity and social formation, but it's neither the defining feature nor the potential savior of the species. I could point you to a lot more reasoned, intelligent and worthwhile stuff, that isn't put forward by an 'ethical prophet'. Urgh.

Lewis I recently read it and highly reccommend it, and I think it's similar in substance to the things you guys are talking about and makes some points really relevant to music and entertainment in general.
