Only the last 4-5 years I've been getting into it actually. It's enjoyable music that's great for sitting around with friends and drinkin a beer to |

03.07.12 | Underrated/Unpopular:
Trap music
Pop
Reggae/dub
Country
EDM-styled dubstep (while a lot of it is stagnant, people think that just because they know who
Burial is, they have right to go "Heavy bass wobbles??? This is bullshit! I know because I'm a real
dubstep expert. I know Swarms.")

Crunkcore
Radio rock (cuz they think all of these genres are still relevant) |

03.07.12 | avett brothers are the shit tbh |
iambandersnatch
03.07.12 | I think some country can sound good, when it mixes with folk and other genres. But straight up country is usually a bore because it's so one-dimensional. The twangy sound is so overused. |
YankeeDudel
03.07.12 | I like Johnny Cash but hes too badass for labels. |

What do you mean? |
macadoolahicky
03.07.12 | I just thought it was strange that you thought post-punk and trip-hop are sputnik's least favorite genre's since a lot of the bands of said genre's make music a lot of people on this site seem to love. |
ChuckyTruant
03.07.12 | Christian rock for sure. Just cuz not many ppl at all on here are christian or even religious |
tarkus
03.07.12 | there is one post punk band that has acclaimed albums on sputnik and that is JD

03.07.12 | "I just thought it was strange that you thought post-punk and trip-hop are sputnik's least favorite genre's since a lot of the bands of said genre's make music a lot of people on this site seem to love."
I will admit trip hop has gained some recognition in the last few years on this site, but in terms of post-punk, the variety remains extremely limited to the average users knowledge.
Most notably Joy Division and The Cure
|
tarkus
03.07.12 | yeah the cure has some high ratings on a couple albums but very few go around proclaiming their cure love
same goes for talking heads |
boogs
03.07.12 | Your title is completely different from the question you ask in the description. Most unpopular: Mainstream Rock. Most underrated, IMO: Jazz |
ThroneOfAgony
03.07.12 | srry 'bout dat |
TheFonz123
03.07.12 | popular country is horrible but a lot of the more underground stuff is cathartic and interesting stuff. WHoever said it all sounds the same is an idiot becuase only the mainstream faction is homogeneous |
YankeeDudel
03.07.12 | Jazz is just so far from the mainstream and hasnt really been big since the 60s. I mean I have some Miles Davis, Coltrane, Mingus, and the likes but whos really doing anything big in jazz these days that hasnt been done 60 years ago?
IDK I love sputnik because it matches my tastes perfectly. Its mainly Rock, Metal, Alternative, Prog, and Indie here w/ sprinkles of Electronica, Hip Hop, and Jazz. Thats pretty much myself in a nutshell. |
YankeeDudel
03.07.12 | And I said Country all sounds the same Fonz. Its not that hard to check my name. Im sure the underground country is better but its still shit to me. |
tarkus
03.07.12 | when you said johnny cash was too badass for labels, did you mean that you like him too much to recognize him as country? |
TheFonz123
03.07.12 | what are you talking about with that first post. |
YankeeDudel
03.07.12 | I dont like Cash that much. I have a couple of his songs just because hes so badass though. |

03.07.12 | william parker-the peach orchard
robert glasper-in my element
Colin Stetson-New History
matana roberts-Coin Coin
four "new" artists pushing boundaries. jazz has progressed and changed since then, in fact right after the 60s fusion became popular. In the 80's pop-jazz became sort of a thing. people like Wynton Marsalis might like to resurect old jazz traditions but that doesnt mean it hasnt changed. I dunno sounds like an ignorant statement to me. becuase if you read up on what you were talking about you'd know that's not true. |
illmitch
03.07.12 | im pretty familiar with post-punk, your lists are good, cant think of any bands that are missing off the top of my head |
YankeeDudel
03.07.12 | Well I am ignorant when it comes to Jazz and Country Fonzie my boy just like you're ignorant when it comes to Tool lol. I will check those guys out though because I love the old jazz stuff. Im just saying Jazz is very far from mainstream. You just dont hear much about it unless you're really into the stuff. So yea I guess its underrated. |
YankeeDudel
03.07.12 | Actually I know Colin Stetson. Hes pretty cool. But again all those guys you listed barely have any views on Youtube. If those are the top new Jazz guys then Jazz is really underground/underrated in general and not just on sputnik which is all Im sayin. |
TheFonz123
03.07.12 | haha good point i am ignorant to tool! if your a newby I can rec you more accessible stuff becuase those I listed are really really good but they are somewhat experimental so im not sure if their a good starting point lol |
TheFonz123
03.08.12 | yes your completely right jazz is completely ignored by the mainstream, being a new jazz artist in 2012 guarantees obscurity. in the 20's, 30's, and 40's jazz was IT though shit was america's most popular music |

03.08.12 | ska, obviously |
The7thVermicide
03.08.12 | Jazz ,industrial ,reggae are so underrated here , country not so much |
RobertFripp
03.08.12 | Progressive is a really underrated genre. |
The7thVermicide
03.08.12 | I only dislike St Anger ,some kind of monster ep and lulu |
AdamK
03.08.12 | I think the thing about jazz is it is by far the least appreciate music by the younger crowd because unless you played jazz growing up of heard it chances are you won't understand it as a teenager. I'm 18 and like jazz but none of my friends would like it. So in that way it kind of makes sense that the audience for it is declining |
ncguitar
03.08.12 | Converge, Opeth, Thrice, Deftones and Brand New are underrated here. |
Ovrot
03.08.12 | Bluegrass |
MassiveAttack
03.08.12 | Post-Punk, specifically anything other than Joy Division. |
