| Japanese Albums Need More Votes
Just 1 favorite album from each artist/group -- in ABC order, no reason to rate one above the other.rEdit: Point of this was picking albums with single digitish (or close) votes. Hence no X Japan, Dir en Grey, Mono, WeG, etc -- stuff that's already known on Sputnik. ;) | 1 | | Bump of Chicken Jupiter
Touching, heart-felt j-rock ballads, and Melody Flag, my favorite BoC song. :) | 2 | | Chihiro Onitsuka Insomnia
I still think her debut is the most consistent, even though This Armor and Sugar High have most of my favorites. | 3 | | Dead End Zero
Serafine! | 4 | | FLiP Haha kara Umareta Hinekura no Uta
Rocking album from 4 18-year-old Japanese girls. On the closing track, Sachiko sings with more balls a lot of guys nowadays. | 5 | | Gackt Mars
Will always be a j-rock classic. From start to finish, the singing, playing, production, and arrangement are all brilliant. | 6 | | hide Psyence
RIP man. :( | 7 | | L'arc en Ciel Ark
Best release from one of the most influential j-rock groups of the 90's. | 8 | | Maaya Sakamoto Lucy
Produced by Yoko Kanno. You seriously need more reason than that? | 9 | | Malice Mizer Merveilles
One of my favorite 90's visual releases. | 10 | | Miwako Okuda Futari
Opening track is from the POV of a schoolgirl about to commit suicide. Best part? That isn't even the most depressing track on this. | 11 | | Siam Shade Siam Shade V
V and VI were where they were at the top of their game. Giving a slight edge to V though. | 12 | | Sid Ajisai
Debut release of a kick-ass visual band, with top notch talent all around. They would later devolve into standard j-pop-rock, but this release was when they still had balls. | 13 | | Shiina Ringo Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana
I read somewhere once that there are 30 different type of instruments on this album. Any other album and I'd start counting. With this one, I don't doubt it for even a second. | |

02.23.12 | Agreed that Jap albums need more votes, but not necessarily these ones... | iambandersnatch
02.23.12 | My gf's favorite band is the GazettE so I hear stuff that is similar to this a lot. She also likes
Luna Sea, X-Japan, and a few others that I'm forgetting. She knows I come on here so she wanted to
see what the Gazette albums got, I think she got offended when a couple people had downrated their
new one pretty bad, lol.
Personally, I think they're incredibly talented musicians (moreso than a lot of famous technical
metal acts, even) but I often disagree with the songwriting decisions. I think they're one of the
biggest bands in Japan though, so obviously a lot of people get into it.
I think DIM by Gazette is by far their best, a lot of people would like that album if they actually
heard it. I 3.5'ed it but I think it would be 4-4.5 territory for a lot of people on this site.

02.23.12 | Needs The Hiatus. | Alucard125
02.23.12 | Heard of 12, they're not too bad. Had a different album of theirs though. | sidjmt
02.23.12 | Alucard> 1st one is totally different from the rest, if you think they had potential but weren't your style, I'd recommend trying it.
djocelot> Haven't heard of them, but looked them up, pretty cool. Used to be a fan of Ellegarden. I'll definitely keep an eye out for their albums.
discovolante> Cool, thanks for the comment. I tried Zard, but couldn't get that into her. I think the style sounds too old for my tastes. Definitely like some songs, just not any albums. She passed away recently, right? So sad. :( | sidjmt
02.23.12 | Auschwitz> Not a fan personally, heard their stuff though, they're definitely talented.
iambandersnatch> I have quite a few songs I absolutely love by Gazette. I agree, they're really talented when it comes to playing, but sometimes their songs are just bad. But when they're on, they're on. More of a fan of Stacked Rubbish, but DIM did have it's moments.

02.23.12 | ZedO> If you can get past his odd, "overdone" vocals, Mars was definitely his best album. Amazingly talented guy, even if a couple of screws seem loose sometimes...
VlacDrac> Never tried their albums, I do like songs I've heard here and there. Also, they're too popular for this list.
Misanthropist> No, I'm an American-born Korean, thanks.
Anyone else, sorry if the list is disappointing. Feel free to make your own and link it if you want. :) | Katechon
