The community as a whole has evolved in a way where you can find great reviews all over the place. If you read a review from back in 2005-2007, it's almost guaranteed to suck. Today, it's way more likely to read an exceptional review. Staff doesn't stand out above normal reviewers the way they used to, but it's dumb to claim they're sinking to the bottom pit of reviewers - that's just not true at all. Plus, there are new staff and contribs that have become staff/contrib because they've been writing so exceptionally. Also, is your dick-riding comment about Kindred? Maybe that's just a great release. Sputnik has always collectively loved certain albums, Kindred is just one of them. Those albums tend to be pretty great, which is part of why I love sputnik - the collective opinion is usually pretty accurate.

I've never seen so many butthurt fans when a critic says the album is disappointing. Fanboys join the site just to upvote an album. That doesn't represent the collective opinion of sputnik. Please pick an album from a band that doesn't have an extremely dedicated fanbase, and then I can take your point seriously. That annoying fanboyism is bound to happen on a site that has open registration, check Universum's Mortuus Machina for example. All active users fucking hated that album, but there are tons of people who just registered to rate it a 5 and act like the reviewer sucked. The same thing happened for Sum 41 recently (that's right, Sum fucking 41). But when there isn't that obvious bias, sputnik is usually pretty accurate in picking out what's good and what isn't.
