02.10.12 | Sarcofago, duh. |
gabethepiratesquid
02.10.12 | Actually I might concede that early 2000s Southern kind of slipped in quality because it was mostly ringtone rappers, and while those WERE really catchy and usually had good production, it was too single-driven to make for consistent quality.
then it rose with Clipse and Lil Wayne and stuff. |

02.11.12 | southern hip hop definitely rules
if you think the lyrical content isn't there i'm assuming you haven't listened to much of it |
Hawks
02.11.12 | Speaking of Southern hip-hop, I'm listening to The Pimp & Da Gangsta by Dirty right now and it's definitely one of the best hip-hop albums ever. |
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | I love that album.
The biggest thing that kills me about the death of Megaupload is that all of the good old 90s Southern hip-hop albums and their traces are gone forever, since usually they were only uploaded when Megaupload was the biggest music sharing site. Good thing I went on a huge old South Park Coalition binge like a month before Megaupload died. |
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | ESG - Sailin' da South = 5 5 5 5 5 |
MalleusMaleficarum
02.11.12 | yeah the midwest is strong as fuck

02.11.12 | west coast sucks compared to east coast though
|
Hawks
02.11.12 | West Coast is good, but yeah, it can't compare to the East Coast. |
Trebor.
02.11.12 | How do you compare to 36 Chambers, Illmatic, The Low End Theory, Paul's Boutique, Takes A nation Of Millions, Raising Hell, etc? |
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | @Trebor: With plenty of classics from other regions lol |
Destructerator
02.11.12 | >2012

>Not listening to The Marshall Mathers LP |
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | Post-1995, NYC was on a downward slope. Yeah they'd have a the occasional great artist/album but for every one of those there would be three great Cali or ATL/NO/H-town acts. Which is why as a region they aren't the best. South and West have stayed strong. |
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | if u greentext ur automatically a virgin jsyk |

One of my favorite songs from the West Coast. I've never even listened to that whole album, but that song fucking bumps. |
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | Yeah actually you're right. The West Coast had a huuuge dry spell for a while. But with this new decade, California's quickly been becoming the new big shit in hip-hop. (see: Odd Future, Black Hippy, Hyphy revival, Main Attrakionz, etc.). South has still been better tho. |
MalleusMaleficarum
02.11.12 | commercially, the south is kinda dominating.
but theres sprinkles of east (jay z) and midwest representatives (kanye) still making a large portion of that money too |
fsharptrit0ne
02.11.12 | odd future isn't that good though. hip hop in the last decade saw great releases from all over. |
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | + Eminem still stacks dat paper even though his new shit sux. |
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | "odd future isn't that good though. hip hop in the last decade saw great releases from all over."
Wrong but even if you weren't, we're talking about higher quality w/ popularity, which OF definitely has. They aren't bad at the very least. |
fsharptrit0ne
02.11.12 | plus in 96 dr oct dropped dr octagonecologyst |
eternium
02.11.12 | I only listen to Russian hip hop. |
fsharptrit0ne
02.11.12 | yea they aren't bad if your age is 16-18 |
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | are you rly judging them by their fanbase so you can distance yourself from them? |
MCGF
02.11.12 | who gives a fuck about regions |
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | @MCGF: Because we're at a region war of course you dummy
but no different regions have their different sounds and styles. Though with the internet age that's getting increasingly irrelevant. See a lot of poppier rapping using a lot of hyphy production, Earl rapping like an East Coast niqqa, ASAP going on like he's from H-town, etc. etc. etc.
@andcas: I adore their production for the most part. |
MalleusMaleficarum
02.11.12 | OF would be best if it was just 3 members: Tyler, Earl and Domo
|
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | + Left Brain, Frank and Mike.
basically everyone but they might want to kick out Hodgy. Though to be fair he has really been improving as of late so he isn't just really dumb and making up random words just to rhyme about nothing anymore. |
gabethepiratesquid
02.11.12 | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfYIau1uoZc
Like on this song. I was like, "Holy shit Hodgy could actually rap this well? the fuqq?" |
