| It's A Folk Punk Kinda Day.
Folk Punk can arguably be some of the most raw, emotional, powerful music, in many cases because of its pure simplicity. List is my top 15 Folk Punk releases. | 1 | | Against Me! Crime, As Forgiven By
As far as Folk Punk goes, Against Me! is without a doubt the most well known. Even though the music they make now days is FAR from their roots in the anarcho-punk scene, their early music is filled with politically fueled angst, and raw emotion. In "Crime," Tom Gabel put together outstanding songwriting with his angry, powerful, sometimes incoherent vocals to produce the best release Folk Punk has ever seen. | 2 | | Defiance, Ohio Share What Ya Got
Some of the most unorthodox music, blending punk with almost a bluegrass folk sound, it creates a kind of feel good music, while still keeping with the anti-establishment, "take a look at all the shit going down around you and do something" feeling that is punk music. | 3 | | Wingnut Dishwashers U nion Burn the Earth, Leave it Behind
Pat the Bunny. The man behind "Wingnut Dishwashers," "Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains," and most recently "Ramshackle Glory." I can't say enough about this man. Anarchist, (former) drug addict, dishwasher, poet. His music needs to be heard to understand the pure emotion that he can show. | 4 | | Against Me! Against Me!
See #1 | 5 | | Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains Caught in the Act of Not Being Awesome
See #3 | 6 | | Andrew Jackson Jihad People Who Can Eat People are the Luckiest People
Andrew Jackson Jihad. They're like a modern day Jesus, if nearly everything Jesus said was a sarcastic, sharp, cunning comment on how fucked up people, society, and you yourself are. | 7 | | Frank Turner Love, Ire & Song
A huge contrast from most of this list, "Love, Ire, & Song" relays the message of an aging punk rocker, looking back at the angst with feelings of regret and nostalgia. Maybe not exactly Folk Punk per say, but it is Folk, and it is Punk, so it makes my list. | 8 | | Defiance, Ohio The Great Depression
See #2 | 9 | | Against Me! Reinventing Axl Rose
See #1 | 10 | | Mischief Brew Smash the Windows
Combe aspects of modern day Folk Punk with an old timey, Gypsy, Medieval feeling and you have Mischief Brew. Listening to Erik Petersen sing as if he were living a few hundred years ago, while at the same time using it to relay a modern day message is quite an experience. Plus, the Eastern European influenced music is catchy as fuck. | 11 | | Mischief Brew Songs From Under the Sink | 12 | | Frank Turner England Keep My Bones
See #7 | 13 | | This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb Front Seat Solidarity
One of the pioneers of Folk Punk, this album is definitely worth a listen through or two. Pretty similar to Defiance, Ohio, it's a catchy, folk record with true punk roots. | 14 | | Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains Love Songs For The Apocalypse
See #3 | 15 | | Andrew Jackson Jihad Knife Man
