wacknizzle 02.02.12	1, 2, 3, 4, are actually cool even though i hate djent too. everything gets shitty once you find a word for it. metalcore was cool before bands started calling themselves it, eventually the bands considered metalcore were a 1000 fucking miles away from what metalcore really was. especially melodic death metal(swedish) with breakdowns is not metalcore just like as i lay dying and killswitch engage are not metalcore.

wacknizzle 02.02.12	it's still a disease and too many people are trying to do it, leave it to the real songwriting musicians who don't make a big thing of it. i don't think last chance to reason is very djent at all, good thing. Good bands make their own thing of it and most of those bands are hardly djent in the real sense of the word. It's only a genre for generic unoriginal guitar players who figure out how to play it and think they mean shit and then shitty electrocore bands just steal breakdowns from it.
Yazz_Flute 02.02.12	The self-titled had lots of good individual moments, yeah. But it's not really an album I could sit down and listen to all the way through. Weightless was just boring. I get the feeling that must 'djent' musicians don't really understand music. That doesn't make them less technically impressive, but it explains the poor song-writing. Watch any interview with Misha Mansoor, he seems completely clueless.
BugZoid 02.02.12	The tone is wonderful, it's just one of those things that everyone jumped on all at once and it became overdone in like a matter of a year or two. It's not to say all the bands that utilize the tone or style are bad, but it has just become cliche in such a short amount of time.

Zorak 02.02.12	I just could not get into Weightless. I hated the 8bit parts. The s/t had so many "wow" moments as where I just didn't get that feeling with Weightless. Just my opinion though. @wacknizzle I know LCTR isn't djent but they have some sections that use it.

macadoolahicky 02.02.12	It's the same thing that happens to any genre that gets big for a little bit. Melodeath was really big for a while, and not necessarily everyone thinks it's shit but certainly it's not as big as it used to be. Deathcore isn't as big as it used to be, but people really hated that all the time pretty much. You just gotta find the right bands, no matter what genre you're in.

NeutralThunder12 02.03.12	being technically proficient and being able to play sweeps and shit does make you a good musician. Good musician and good songwriter are different. I don't listen to technical metal for coherent and solid "songwriting" i listen for riffs and diversity and the way its all composed. some people enjoy it, some dont. Theres definitely some bad djent shit out there but theres some good stuff as well.

I know plenty of solid guitarists and drummers that can't write music." this basically. i'll be the first to admit that a ton of djent band are very talented technically, but music isn't a sport, it's art. it's not about some physical feat or braggery. nothing wrong with technicality if it adds to the music, but these djent bands have no song writing skills, it's just a bunch of cold, calculated and emotionless riffs strung together in some inaudible tuning.

CakeWithCream 02.03.12	its Progressive Groove Metal. All the good 'djent' bands play a sound that focuses on a balance between melody and groove. Bad djent bands play djent. Just like most people listen to brostep when they listen to dubstep and have never heard of shit like Burial, Submotion etc.

AtomicWaste 02.03.12	There's a decent amount of good djent, but you sort of have to dig for it. And you've got to dig hard. You've also got to know what you like. I go for the stuff with the progressive edge because I find more innovation with those bands as opposed to the deathcore centered stuff, which is usually crap. Anything that winds up with awful vocals and low string wailing is just poor, but there are some that do it right. As for musicianship... I think a lot of them fancy themselves Steve Vais, and the issue is they're just not.
