Firstly, I don't care if Laura Stevenson, Thrice, Manchester Orchestra, or [insert hyped rartist] isn't here. Secondly, I don't care if your band isn't here. Thirdly, my username isn't radaptable enough to make a cool list title. Fourthly, recommended reading from top to rbottom. Fifthly, it's still the 31st here, so I'm still within the 'January Cutoff'. Finally, props rto all you guys. Supplementary, I'm still sifting through 2011 trying to ascertain what it rwas all about, something which many of you have already mentioned. What a rdisillusioning(?) year.
25Bon Iver
Bon Iver, Bon Iver

Most of you clowns end your lists with Bon Iver, Bon Iver, Bon Iver, Bon
Iver, Bon Iver, Bon... yeah, I'm beginning mine with it. To me, a step to the
side, and slightly down for Vernon. Watercolour should be used more in
album art though, dont you agree?
24Beyonce
4

If Beyonce had any more girl power she'd probably explode. 'Jake... why is
Beyonce higher than Vernon?' Answer: why do you care?
23Foo Fighters
Wasting Light

We all seriously thought the Foos wouldnt ever make a decent set of jams
again. Cant complain can we?
22Mastodon
The Hunter

Felt somewhat underwhelmed initially, soon got caught in the curl of the
burl and now Im stuck in a tree writing you this list.
21Corrupted
Garten Der Unbewusstheit

20Sepalcure
Sepalcure

I really did enjoy it, more than Zomby obviously. *Gasp*
19Andrew Jackson Jihad
Knife Man

Light-hearted, yet evocative and of course totally substantial. This could
have made top ten material. Don?t ask why it didn?t because I honestly
don?t know.
18Florence and the Machine
Ceremonials

Skeptical initially, happily satisfied in the end.
17Coldplay
Mylo Xyloto

'Paradise' probably tops as my song of the year. That melody, that bass.
Just brilliant.
16Hugh Laurie
Let Them Talk

Weirdly effective, highly entertaining. Laurie reminded me to jump back to
play edgy piano blues and not the snobby classical etudes that have ruled
my year of piano practice.
15Gotye
Making Mirrors

This guy is about as far from your 'typical Aussie' as you'll find (duh, he was
born a Belgian), but he is nonetheless a citizen; therefore a wild card entry
due to patriotism. A great melodic album with excellent pop tunes of course
helped along the process.
14James Blake
James Blake

ffs Wikipedia! The real James Blake is not a failed tennis showpony, get
your priorities straight. Had to add at least one more album like this to gain
my chances of getting Devfeat/Devcred. Not having Zomby or Submotion
probably negate this plea. Really, though, could any of you imagine a 2011
without James Blake?
13Paul Simon
So Beautiful Or So What

Did you just plager.... Shhh! Simon says listen to So Beautiful Or So What.
12The Weeknd
House of Balloons

Smooth and groovy - simultaneously dark. Would be higher if I wasn't lazy
and actually didn't start my year 9 months late.
11Combat Astronomy
Flak Planet

Where jazz meets metal and freaking actually works! (Beware lyric
obsessionists... none to be found in these realms)
10Ry Cooder
Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down

Ends up being the 'obligatory album no one else listened to' entry. Album is
actually amazing btw.
9 Seasick Steve
You Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

When Im seventy-something, I hope Im as badass as this guy, and able to
write chill blues songs.
8PJ Harvey
Let England Shake

Pretty sure England literally shook. Scary.
7Swarms
Old Raves End

Emotive driven soundscapes that cracked my rear view mirror. No joke.
6Vektor
Outer Isolation

m/ - revel in its unrivalled glory
5Ash Borer
Ash Borer

I told myself once, 'black metal will NEVER make my top ten'. Whoops.
4Adele
21

'Omg I am so, like, sick of hearing this on the radio, like why do they have
to play it over and over' Answer: Because it's fucking excellent you stupid
whiny bitches. Go write some droopy songs about it and see if they get a
single iota of airplay.
3Frank Turner
England Keep My Bones

Frank, keep my bones.
2Kate Bush
50 Words for Snow

Somewhere, amid the snow, Kate has found her snowman -- she has to tip
toe along a piano to get to him though.
1Colin Stetson
New History Warfare, Vol 2: Judges

A brooding saxophone timbre, contorted and sclupted into music that I can't
fit anywhere in my folder heirachy.
