Sweeping Songs
I recently moved from Dallas, Texas to Orlando, Florida for school.
When I left my friends and family I wanted to leave them with
something that reminded them of me so I made this mix for them.
It's a mixture of songs that I love for nostalgia's sake to those that
had lyrics that fit the way I was feeling to songs I think are sweeping
and beautiful. This is a mix that would remind anyone who knows me
of the times we shared. |
1 | Angels and Airwaves Et Ducit Mundum Per Luce
I wanted an intro song that would set the tone and the pace of the album and I
think it does it nicely. Plus it?s beautiful and dramatic. |
2 | Dredg Bug Eyes
Even though the song is about death technically. It?s more about making a
journey and having to leave your loved ones behind. |
3 | U2 City of Blinding Lights
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. This song was one of the reasons I
fell in love with U2. Most of my friends were around during that period in my life
and they were tortured by me playing it over and over again. It?s been several
years since then so, hopefully, they?ll forgive me for including it here. |
4 | Coldplay Every Teardrop is a Waterfall
This song is so uplifting and the bridge says spot on how I feel when I listen to
my favorite music. I don?t want people to be sad when I?m gone. I want people
to turn this album up if they ever are missing me and they can smile. |
5 | Angels and Airwaves The Adventure
This song is super dramatic and explains the ?adventure? I?m going on by
continuing this new chapter in my life. |
6 | Wakey!Wakey! Almost Everything
The vocal performance on this song is so incredible! This song is my hug of
reassurance to my friends. |
7 | U2 Bad
This is the other reason I fell in love with U2. I?ve heard this song a million
times but I still get chills every time Bono screams, ?I?m wide awake.? It?s SO
powerful! |
8 | 30 Seconds to Mars The Kill
A dramatic song that I love. I wanted to include 30 Seconds to Mars somewhere
in the mix but almost all of their good songs are 6 minutes or more. This one
was a reasonable time (I had to fit this on a CD) and I love the chorus on it. |
9 | Coldplay Violet Hill
This has a great vocal performance. I love the image I get in my head when I
hear this song. I picture a quiet nighttime snow over a sleepy village. Every
time I listen to this song, I just close my eyes and go to that village. |
10 | Angels and Airwaves Hallucinations
Angels and Airwaves pretty much set the tone I wanted to create for this
album. I wanted a larger than life ambient feeling of uplifting, positive and
beautiful music. I wanted people who listen to this to feel inspired and ready to
take on the world. That?s what AWA makes me feel like. |
11 | U2 Pride (In The Name Of Love)
Another one of my favorite U2 songs. If I had to pick one song that (sort of)
doesn?t belong on this mix it?d be this one. It?s pretty much only here because I
love it. |
12 | Flickerstick Smile
This is one of the first bands I listened to when I started high school. This is also
the same year I met most of my close friends I have now. I want them to smile
when they hear this song as they take a trip down memory lane. |
13 | Coldplay Clocks
This is another song that I listened to with a lot of my close friends several
years ago. I had a lot of great memories and fun times with this song in the
background. I still can?t get over how amazing that opening piano is. |
14 | U2 Yahweh
This is a song that I wanted on here to thank God for giving me this opportunity
that I have now to pursue my dream. That?s what this bold move is all about. |
15 | Foo Fighters Come Alive
This is the song that inspired me to stop being stagnant in my life and start the
new chapter that I?m embarking on now. Hearing Dave Grohl repeating the
phrase ?Come Alive? over and over and over pushed me to do just that. |
16 | Kate Voegele Hallelujah
This is sort of the ?hidden track? on the mix. There?s 30 seconds of silence in
between the last song and this one. I?ve always thought this song was beautiful
but Kate Voegele?s voice is so strong and powerful that it almost brought me to
tears the first time I heard this cover. I want people to leave the listening of this
album strengthened and empowered and I think this song does just that. |
