Stealing From Yet More Guitarists

Since my other band, Alchemist's Fire, is far, far, FAR different from Pillowfort, I have to steal - er, I mean, derive influence from different guitarists for that band.
1 Pelican
Trevor de Brauw and Laurent Lebec

A had a lot of Pelican on my mind when forming this band, so I'm obviously going to draw heavy influence from these guitarists. Attempting to figure out stuff like "March to the Sea" has unlocked some potent riffs for our arsenal. Their Post-Metal example is a big part of what drives our sound.
2 Russian Circles
Mike Sullivan

I certainly can't play like that, but our lead guitarist can. This band and this guitarist mostly influences how I write songs, and I constantly look to their music for inspiration and some level of songwriting guidance.
3 Opeth
Mikael Åkerfeldt and Peter Lindgren

Dude. Metal. Both of these guys are very worthy guitarists, lead and rhythm both. Then there was that time that Doug messed up playing part of a tab for "Bleak" from memory and we wrote an awesome piece around it. These guys know how to control and work an awesome dichotomy of stinging brutality and enrapturing elegance, which we've worked on emulating to some extent.
4 Porcupine Tree
Steven Wilson

Very straightforward rhythm guitar work from what I've heard, but it certainly fits the band's style and sound. I've pretty much lifted a strumming pattern or two from this guy in writing for Alchemist's Fire.
5 ....Trail of Dead
Conrad Keely and Kevin Allen

These guys know how to write some damn good two-guitar rock, and create nifty parts that work incredibly well together. Using neat guitar tunings has always been a fun past-time of mine as well, and these guys mix it up once in a while in really clever ways.
