Been Jamming To _______ Lately...
some of the stuff i've been jamming to recently |
1 | | Pygmy Lush Old Friends
this band took a few listens to grow on me too, but after this album, my mind is made up. if you're expecting another pg. 99, forget all about them and try to start over. this is amazing folky-indie-post-rocky-whateverthefuck but it's fucking amazing. it's good that they've finally decided on the softer sound too instead of the meandering quiet-then-loud dynamic of their previous 2 releases. |
2 | | Head Wound City Head Wound City
awesome ep from an awesome band. i'm real bummed this is all they ever put out. i first heard it pretty much right when it dropped in 05 and have been impatiently waiting for more activity ever since but it seems these dudes have all gone back to their other projects. |
3 | | Verse En Coma Rialto
i don't really know what makes this ep so great to me but you should check it out for yourself. features most of the guys from city of caterpillar but it's not screamo, more of an indie-post-rocky kinda thing. whatever you wanna call it, it's good. |
4 | | The Appleseed Cast Sagarmatha
it's no mare vitalis, but this kinda-new sound they've developed is pretty interesting to me for some reason. pretty impressive for a band that's been around as long as they have. |
5 | | Gospel The Moon Is A Dead World
i've pretty much been listening to this album non-stop for the past 6 years. gospel is one of my favorite bands of all time and it's a shame this album is basically all they have to show for it. if for some reason you haven't given this one a listen yet, stop what you're doing and get on it right now. no other band has been able to blend hardcore, prog and psychedelia the way these dudes did. simply amazing. |
6 | | Fugue YEARS
bummer these dudes broke up, fortunately i was able to make it out to Connecticut to see their last show with tera melos and the almighty melt-banana. tremendous musicianship and no lack in originality here. |
7 | | Ampere The First Five Years
i've been a huge fan of everything killingsworth since orchid. wolves, bucket full of teeth, ampere, they're all amazing. great fast-paced hardcore for fans of screamo and punk alike. |
8 | | Black Star Black Star
i've always been a huge fan of mos def and talib kweli, but being so young when this album came out i never gave it the attention it deserved. it's been a staple of my stupid 8gb ipod playlist for quite a few years now and it never gets old. |
9 | | Loma Prieta LIFE/LESS
finally got around to picking this one up, didn't disappoint. loma have definitely found their sound by now and this album proves it. |
10 | | Pianos Become The Teeth The Lack Long After
one of the best releases of 2011, easily. pbtt stepped it up one huge notch from the impressive old pride to drop this bomb on us. great emotional hardcore |
11 | | Helen of Troy The Face That Launched A Thousand Ships
another band i've always liked, just found this one in my room the other day and can't stop listening to it again. for fans of gospel (it's pretty much the same band, plus 2 guys minus the keyboardist/second guitarist from gospel) |
12 | | Brainworms II Swear To Me
singer definitely makes these guys, but that doesn't mean the instrumentation is lacking. good guitar work and great drum work on top of excellent lyrics make this one an a+ |
13 | | Bravo Fucking Bravo II
i thought these guys were mega lame upon first listen but i gave it another chance and they grew on me. nothing really new or exciting, but they get the job done |
14 | | Kayo Dot Choirs of the Eye
i think toby driver is such a fuck but this album is pretty good. the manifest curiosity is definitely the winner on this one |
15 | | ...Who Calls So Loud ...Who Calls So Loud
always liked these guys but never realized how good this album truly was until i gave it an honest listen in a long car ride. check em out if you liked funeral diner |
