Gilgamahesh 12.06.11	Just got into Darkest Hour, but it seems more metalcore to me. HSThomas we'll just have to disagree I guess. I've never found old In Flames to be the least bit boring, and I've definitely never considered them insipid (their stuff post Clayman is everything you described and worse). But to each his own. The purpose of this place, for me at least, is to become exposed to the taste of other music lovers, not necessarily to agree with them.

Gilgamahesh 12.06.11	My tastes may and probably will change dude, but I don't see anything wrong with their old material right now. That said, I listen to them a lot less than I used to. What strikes you as inferior about their stuff now, and what do you substitute in that In Flames-shaped void?
MO 12.06.11	I mean it's good and definitely influential to the scene, but I've kinda moved away from alot of melodic death metal for osdm, black metal etc. The corniness was a big factor in that.

MDM really appeals to me as a guitarist, as a mythology nerd (my appreciation of Amon Amarth is at least partly due to their subject matter), and someone who usually requires a good melody to wrap his head around. Get rid of the more melodic aspects in favor of heaviness, as many of the OSDM bands I've listened to seem to do, and I'm probably not going to get into it much.

MO 12.06.11	There are exceptions, Amon Amarth is still one of my favourites, older power metal I enjoy but it definitely gets a little much after a while.
