12.04.11 | Sorry for the 2001-esque list. What happened (and I need your advice on it) was that I was having a "polite" argument with a dude. He wasn't undestanding why people hated Communism.
His argument was that "Communism saved the world". According to him, "if it wasn't for Communism, nowadays all European countries would be speaking ugly German language" (totally ignoring the Resistance). (Dude, the Soviet Union only attacked the Nazis because they disobeyed the 1938 non-aggression pact).
But this isn't all. In fact the worst part is yet to come. When confrontated with the millions of losses under Communism (under Stalin alone the deaths in gulags were over 65 million - compare to 10 millions in the Holocaust), his reply is that "it wasn't as bad, because those people weren't killed because of racism, but because of equal opportunities" (yeah, the dude is trying to justify, well...).
As a consequence the dude freaked me out. I need your feedback. Am I right? Am I wrong? |

You shouldn't be even arguing with a dude like that, or even give him the dignity to express his opinion through argument. Worst still, you're doing it over the internetz. Let it go.

12.04.11 | In all fairness, I wouldn't class Stalinism as true Communism. The only revolution I can think of that comes close to being truly Marxist was that of Cuba. Anyone who tries to defend Stalin has a screw loose though. You really can't argue with people like that. |
