11.29.11 | Amazing guitar player. |
MO
11.29.11 | oh man, needs the ending solo of Pigs (three different ones) |
stabbler
11.29.11 | needs Pigs (2)
and that 30 or so seconds on Dogs... |
AngelofDeath
11.29.11 | Why is Money on here twice and nothing from Animals? Shit's not that good. |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | Yes Pigs and Dogs solos are also amazing.
But these are my top 10 Gilmour leads. |
NightProwler
11.29.11 | Needs Time, less Money ^^ |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | My mistake. I meant Money and Time from TDSOFM.
Correction done. |
JamieTwort
11.29.11 | Amazing guitar player indeed. I would have definitely included his solo(s) in Dogs and probably the end solo in Pigs. Still a good list though. |
MO
11.29.11 | everytime I'm browsing the net and I remember about the ending solo in pigs I go and listen to the whole song, so good |
stabbler
11.29.11 | uuummm...have a cigar?! jesus, I'm rusty! |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | Yes Have a Cigar...another gem from Mr. David Gilmour. |
KILL
11.29.11 | 5 so good ugh |
AngelofDeath
11.29.11 | Yeah, 5 is probably top three for me. |
stabbler
11.29.11 | which part/section? |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | Indeed.
Gilmour's work on Shine On You Crazy Diamond is particularly amazing.
@Angel
If you don't know his solo on High Hopes, if you wish take a look:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bqvcmud3LFQ
The saddest solo I've ever heard.
Brilliant.

KILL
11.29.11 | cluster one also has awesome lead work |
johnnyblaze
11.29.11 | yeah, probably my favourite guitar player ever. I used to put Pulse on the TV's at work like everyday. (worked in electronics in a big box store). |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | So true.
Cluster One has an enigmatic vibe.
Gilmour's work on Marooned and Keep Talking is also top level. |
stabbler
11.29.11 | not a lot of love for meddle notrap? |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | "yeah, probably my favourite guitar player ever"
You have good taste dude ;-)
Pulse is an amazing live album.
I saw that tour/show. The best show ever.
Pulse's Comfortably Numb version is in my opinion the best solo ever made. |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | "not a lot of love for meddle notrap?"
Tons of it.
One of These Days solo is on the list. However my fav version is the lead work on Delicate Sound of Thunder. |
stabbler
11.29.11 | sorry man - missed that. was lazily scanning for the meddle cover. i remember as kid pulling out that record and seeing a whole side filled with one song, and my mind was blown |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | Unfortunately I never had Middle on vinyl.
Same here with The Dark Side of the Moon cover. That hollow triangle over black... |
stabbler
11.29.11 | i had a vinyl box set from piper at the gates of dawn up to the wall, back in the early 80s. The outer case was the dark side of the moon cover. do you think i know what the fuck happened to it? |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | Hhahaha
Great vinyl box set man.
I also lost 95% of my records due to a fire. Had more than 500...
Irreparable damage.

11.29.11 | High Hopes one rules |
stabbler
11.29.11 | "I also lost 95% of my records due to a fire. Had more than 500...Irreparable damage."
we shall never speak of this again |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | yep...terrible. But life goes on ;-)
@bloc
Amazing song. Amazing solo. Amazing lyrics. |
notorioussam23
11.29.11 | you've obviously never listened to animals. |
MO
11.29.11 | you're obviously dumb |
Irving
11.29.11 | Off the Pink Floyd track, I'd opine that the ending solo for "The Blue" on his On An Island CD is pretty sick too. It's nothing compared to the above, though. Cool list! |
JamieTwort
11.29.11 | ^Yeah that one's pretty good. On An Island is a great album. |
bloc
11.29.11 | It really is |
omnipanzer
11.29.11 | Love all of these. |
NightProwler
11.29.11 | "My mistake. I meant Money and Time from TDSOFM.
Correction done."
I thought so ;) |
mallen-
11.29.11 | List is good
Great to see some love for 3 |
omnipanzer
11.29.11 | Love "Momentary Lapse of Reason" I don't think it gets enough love in general. |
tarkus
11.29.11 | 4 to me is like, just listen to Grateful Dead
|
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | @Irving
Thanks. I need to recheck Gilmour's solo work asap. About Face and On an Island are good albums.
@mallen-
On the Turning Away's lead work is incredible (live and studio version)
@omni
Indeed. Not Floyd's best work sure but still has amazing songs like On the Turning Away, Sorrow or Yet Another Movie, my favourite.
@tarkus
Another Brick in the Wall: Part 2 is like Grateful Dead? What song? I'm just curious.
|
JamieTwort
11.29.11 | Have you heard Gilmour's first solo album Notrap? |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | Yes I did JT but I long time ago...I don't remember much to be honest...
I remember not being much impressed though, however we sometimes change our opinion through time.
Need to recheck all his solo work.
|
JamieTwort
11.29.11 | I quite enjoy it although On An Island is my favourite of his solo albums. |
tarkus
11.29.11 | The guitar solo of Another Brick In the Wall is like an emulation of Jerry Garcia solos |
TheNotrap
11.29.11 | Well I'm not a Grateful Dead specialist but David's influences are Hank Marvin, Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie or Pete Seeger, not Jerry Garcia ;-)
Another Brick in the Wall: Part 2 solo is based on a typical blues scale (like 75% of his leads) so its a common scale, used by thousands of blues/rock oriented guitarists. You probably know a Jerry Garcia's lead that sound alike. |
tarkus
11.29.11 | Not all of his solos are like Garcia, but that one is REALLY close to one |
MrSirLordGentleman
10.08.13 | 1 is 1
2 is 2 |

09.27.22 | The Comfortably Numb solo on Delicate Sound of Thunder is perfection to me. |
