Garden Window
To me this album shows how important influences are... These guys listen to a lot of Oceansize, Thrice, and Mogwai and all three artists make a baby.

Arrows and Anchors
This album surpasses the already tremendous Fables of a Mayfly. Darroh's clever lyrics ("if curiosity kills cats we better teach the cats to fight back") and diverse vocals are a standout as well as the creative drum parts and cool guitar riffs. These guys are a prog band that does not need to resort to throwing in shit loads of weird time signatures (don't get me wrong, i love weird time signatures)

No Devolucion
Thursday's No Devolucion is another album that made me realize weird time signatures aren't always needed. The whole thing is in 4/4 but the songs are just so awesome that who gives a fuck. I had no idea I would like this band because they get the "emo/screamo" label by some. Geoff seems to have gotten better as a vocalist and the whole band shows what they can do here--guitar lines are clever, the bass player uses a lot of cool fuzz bass, the drummer is insane, and the keyboards are cool and not gay. Not one song here isn't good. I hope this is not their final album because I wanted them to continue with this direction.

The Colour Spectrum (Complete Collection)
Casey is just one of those songwriters that never seem to run out of ideas. Recorded in a couple different locations, The Colour Spectrum is evidence that the Dear Hunter is on their way. At least 90% of this is really good.

Major/Minor
Major/Minor may be a very straight-ahead Thrice album but it rocks. Dustin's lyrics are always full of meaning. Riley's drums are a standout in this as well.

Simple Math
I've been following these guys since the first album and they just keep getting better and better. Andy Hull says this is a concept album about a guy who questions everything from love to sex to religion to marriage. These songs are catchy as hell and Robert McDowell comes up with cool lead guitar lines.

Wasting Light
For a while, as far as making records, Dave was just sorta going through the motions. A lot of the past albums had two good songs but the rest were either boring or sucked. Here every song proves that Foo Fighters are still relevant and Dave still rocks your face.

Nine Types of Light
Nine Types of Light is not as dark as its predecessor, Dear Science, but TV on the Radio has still got it. RIP Gerard Smith

Tao of the Dead
A very underrated band and album. Trail of Dead strip down to a four-piece for this one and make a fucking sick album where all the songs go into eachother. It is very 70's prog influenced but it's also very Trail of Dead. Better get your rolling papers ready for this one.

Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
Weird album titles aside this is Mogwai's strongest LP since their debut. The occasional vocals are cool.
