11.21.11 | Lift Your Skinny Fists... or Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada |
Crownley
11.21.11 | LYSF is a lot less abstract than F#A#, I think. F#A# takes a lot of focus and you have to be in the right mood, it's more of a soundtrack than LYSF with a lot more ambient passages. LYSF is more instantly gratifying. I would go with that first and then try F#A# |
someguest
11.21.11 | Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada. Then Lift Your Skinny Fists. Then F#A#∞. |
ApplicationToHeaven
11.21.11 | slow riot for new zero kanada, even though it's technically an ep |
Divine
11.21.11 | Yanqui U.X.O. |

11.21.11 | ^Don't listen to this guy. |
whywontyoudie
11.21.11 | Exactly what someguest said. |
anarchistfish
11.21.11 | just listen to them chronologically
"LYSF is a lot less abstract than F#A#, I think. "
disagreed |
Aids
11.21.11 | listen to the EP first (Slow Riot...) it's the best starting point. that's where I started, they're now my favourite band. |
Divine
11.21.11 | "^Don't listen to this guy."
Hey......... |
SAPoodle
11.21.11 | Yup, Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada is the way to go |
anarchistfish
11.21.11 | I started with F#A# and it's still by far my favourite release from them |
someguest
11.21.11 | The problem with starting with F#A#∞ is if you're in the right mood it'll be perfect, but if you're not it's not as effective. |
omnipanzer
11.21.11 | Yanqui U.X.O |
DarkNoctus
11.21.11 | move chronologically through their discography starting with f#a#oo |
Itwasthatwas
11.21.11 | listen in order, though slow riot is the best of them |
anarchistfish
11.21.11 | "The problem with starting with F#A#∞ is if you're in the right mood it'll be perfect, but if you're not it's not as effective."
well I'm moody as fuck so that explains it |

11.21.11 | Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada. Just so you can get a taste.
If you like it (and trust me, you will), then listen to Skinny fists, and then f#a#. |

11.21.11 | Slow Riot no doubt |

11.21.11 | Good one. |

11.21.11 | "I got into them with Slow Riot only to find out they become incredibly boring if you listen to them for more than 2 times in a year"
says the person who loves tool |
Aids
11.21.11 | I listen to Godspeed about 4 times a week and never get bored. I must be simple-minded or something. |
InAbsentia
11.21.11 | Compared to Baseline, we're all simple-minded, Aids. |

11.21.11 | Baseline's post a few months ago:
"Probably the greatest album in history of music after Lateralus. Nothing will ever come close.
I apologize to progheads (PT, Opeth, PoS fans etc), but your bands are kinda limited by rock/metal boundaries while Tool is actually thinking outside the box to create something beautiful and honest, that's what prog is all about, looks like bands forget that nowadays." |
BloodSweatandBeers
11.21.11 | lol what a dumbfuck |
InAbsentia
11.21.11 | Exactly what I was saying. You're too intelligent for us. |
Aids
11.21.11 | honestly f#a#oo is probably the worst starting point. I'd even suggest Yanqui UXO as a better starting point. |
anarchistfish
11.21.11 | what's wrong with f#a#? |
InAbsentia
11.21.11 | Nothing. It's just a bit less accessible than the other two. |
zxlkho
11.21.11 | Skinny Fists is one of the best albums ever. |
InAbsentia
11.21.11 | Shut up, Baseline. |
Aids
11.21.11 | LYSF is the best album ever
and F A is also one of the best albums ever, I didn't imply that it wasn't, it's just really really not-accessible at all if youre looking to get into godspeed |
InAbsentia
11.21.11 | By saying "Stinky Fists"?
That's pretty passive-aggressive if you ask me. |
zxlkho
11.21.11 | Don't feed the troll guys. |
anarchistfish
11.21.11 | "and F A is also one of the best albums ever, I didn't imply that it wasn't, it's just really really not-accessible at all if youre looking to get into godspeed"
that's odd. I first listened to F#A# when I was still listening to relatively mainstream and accessible music and I loved it immediately |
zxlkho
11.21.11 | Yeah F#A# was the first album I heard from them and I loved it instantly. Skinny Fists just happens to blow it out of the water. |
InAbsentia
11.21.11 | There's an evil virus that's threatening mankind
It's not state of the art, it's a serious state of the mind
The muggers, the backstabbers, the two faced elite
A menace to society, a social disease
To brainwash the mind is a social disorder
The cynics, the apathy one-upmanship order
Watching beginnings of social decay
Gloating and sneering at life's disarray
Eating away at your own self esteem
Pouncing on every word that you might be saying
To attack someones mind is a social disorder
The constitution, the government, martial law order
Superficially smiling a shake of the hand
As soon as your back is turned treason is planned
When every good thing's laid to rest
By - by the governments hate, by the constitution and their lies
And every time you think you're safe
And when you go to turn away
You know they're sharpening all their knives
All in your mind
All in your head
Try to relate it
All in your mind
All in your head
Try to escape it
Without a conscience they destroy
And that's a thing that they enjoy
They're a sickness that's in all of our minds
They want to sink the ship and leave
The way they laugh at you and me
You know it happens all the time
But it only happens in your mind
The rats in the cellar you know who you are...
Or do you?
Watching beginnings of social decay... |
zxlkho
11.21.11 | Oh hey, it's an Iron Maiden song. |
anarchistfish
11.21.11 | the spoken word in BBF3 is the worst spoken word segment of any GY!BE piece though |
zxlkho
11.21.11 | Not sure I agree with that. I like it more than the same guy in Providence.
Can we agree that the spoken part in Sleep is the best though? |
Aids
11.21.11 | haha yeah (edit at the "hey a maiden song" dealie) |

their others are much much better |
Aids
11.21.11 | I strongly disagree, but what are you gonna do.
the way they compose the music (build-up/key change/climax) around the tone of the interview is just masterful. Pure genius. |
anarchistfish
11.21.11 | The Dead Flag Blues', Static's and Sleep's all carry more emotional weight imo
and the beginning of East Hastings if you count it. And the singing scattered all over F#A#. Even the beginning of Providence. BBF3's just gets so irritating after a while. fuck off with your fucking parking ticket I don't give a shit anymore |
WeepingBanana
11.21.11 | F#A# is the best but start with slow riot i guess |
WeepingBanana
11.21.11 | also anarchistfish you're retarded |
anarchistfish
11.21.11 | fuck off |
WeepingBanana
11.21.11 | woah woah now |
Ignimbrite
11.21.11 | Slow Riot is and will always be their best. |
DoubtGin
11.21.11 | listen to everything they released in order |
anarchistfish
11.21.11 | listen to them all in order directly after each other and then do it backwards it doesn't really matter you'll be listening to the same albums in the end |
geng
11.21.11 | I listened to F#A# first, but I would probably recommend Slow Riot as a starting point. It's certainly the most accessible, and in my opinion their best, although there's barely anything between the two of them and Skinny Fists.
And the best Godspeed spoken word sample is the intro to Dead Flag Blues, no question. |
YetAnotherBrick
11.21.11 | whenever you listen to any band just listen to their albums chronologically |
geng
11.21.11 | "whenever you listen to any band just listen to their albums chronologically"
Not a bad rule of thumb in general. There are a few exceptions though. |

Go with F#A# (Infinity). That's the one I started with. |
DarkNoctus
11.22.11 | sandybutt! :[ |
Ignimbrite
11.22.11 | Yanqui just isn't that good compared to their other stuff. |
patroneyes
11.22.11 | slow riot->skinny fists->f#a#∞
then listen to yanqui once you get bored of those 3 (you won't, though). not to say it's not a great album, but it just doesn't hold water to the holy triumvirate. |
InAbsentia
11.22.11 | Still better than 95% of post rock albums. |
