Divine
11.02.11 | Personally, I usually go with Fender. |
Waior
11.02.11 | Fender. The only Gibson I could ever stand playing is an ES-355 and those are way over-priced. Fender's got a lot of good instruments going for them but they're still way too expensive as far as brand names are considered and Ibanez can suck it. |
DominionMM1
11.02.11 | Depends on what kind of music you're playing and what's most comfortable for you. I personally like Gibson, although consistency is something that they need to work on. |
EonblueApocalypse84
11.02.11 | is this solely for conversation or are you looking for recommendations?
I typically play and own Gibsons (specifically les pauls). But if you're looking for recs there are many things to consider. |
TheNotrap
11.02.11 | Fender for smooth themes (like blues oriented leads) and Gibson for raw rock 'n'roll.
I also like Ibanez...versatile gear |
Divine
11.02.11 | It can be for conversation or recs |
omnipanzer
11.02.11 | Aren't Ibanez only known because of nu-metal back in the day or am I remembering that wrong? |
ZilbelPing
11.02.11 | Not a guitarist but my friend next to me who is says it all depends on the music you're playing. He prefers Fender over the three, though. He has a schecter at the moment but he says his next guitar will he a Fender Telecaster, fitting for the type of music our band plays. |
EonblueApocalypse84
11.02.11 | Well there are some fender guitars I have really liked over the years. If you want something that can do the heavier stuff try out the Jaguar HH made in Japan. It's got humbuckers in it and tons of cool options for combining pickups/turning pickups on and off.
But if you're looking for an all in one guitar I don't think anything beats the Les Paul.
Ibanez also makes some really good guitars but you have to be really careful and choosey. |
DominionMM1
11.02.11 | @omni- Kind of. ibanez is typically used by metal guitarists. But not just shit metal like Korn. |
Divine
11.02.11 | I prefer just the classic Fender Strat. There is a lot of personally towards it, plus it has that hard edge crunch to it. |
Waior
11.02.11 | My next guitar is most certainly a Telecaster. But I will never stop saying Godin makes gear of the same caliber for MUCH cheaper. |
MutnikSpusic
11.02.11 | fenda |
Ire
11.02.11 | fender for jangly clean stuff/fuzzy mbv spasms
gibson for drooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooone |
ZilbelPing
11.02.11 | I've seen alot of metalcore guitarists who use Ibanez. |
DominionMM1
11.02.11 | "But if you're looking for an all in one guitar I don't think anything beats the Les Paul."
This. Gibsons, to me, are just freakin' workhorses.
|
Waior
11.02.11 | I have never played a Les Paul I liked. |
EonblueApocalypse84
11.02.11 | yeah, but lots of other people play ibanez that aren't metal. I think Omar from the mars volta plays one, at least he did back in the day have a signature model. They also make satriani and Vai's guitars. |
Thane
11.02.11 | i've been a fender guy for years. used to play a gibson SG but meh... not a fan at all.
picking up a new ibanez RGA 32 tomorrow, will be my first. its cheap and a pretty good guitar for heavier music. tired of playing stuff like Boris with single coils haha, it just doesn't cut it. |
Zorak
11.02.11 | Ibanez has some fast necks and get decent tone. But if you're going for metal I'd go with Schecter. Huge crunch soaring leads and cleans. I've been wanting a strat because I like how light they are though. |
Waior
11.02.11 | ..prs |
clercqie
11.02.11 | Telecaster ftw! |
DominionMM1
11.02.11 | Ibanez necks are a little too thin for me. When it comes to metal, I'm more of a Jackson guy. |
omnipanzer
11.02.11 | At one point I was looking at getting into guitars and someone told me as a budget option that Deans were good as long as you upgrade the pickups... what do you guys think of that option? |
DominionMM1
11.02.11 | Just say no to Dean |
omnipanzer
11.02.11 | Haha cool |
Ire
11.02.11 | I've always hated the Les Paul until recently. The typical Les Paul is thick, heavy and bass heavy. I just started getting into that sound.
lol dean are still terrible |
EonblueApocalypse84
11.02.11 | I may have to try out some schecters again. I just remember walking into a guitar center having no idea what they were back in the day, and playing with like 15 of them because they had awesome options for the money, but they were all flawed in some major way. (Nuts not fit right, shoddy fretwork, messed up tuners) Ever since I have held onto my negative opinion but maybe it's time for a revisit. |
DominionMM1
11.02.11 | I personally think that if you're going for a lower-end guitar, you should go with Ibanez or ESP's LTD line. |
Ire
11.02.11 | i'd rather go sx, agile or douglas |
EonblueApocalypse84
11.02.11 | Anyone ever play a fernandes monterey elite with the infinite sustainer. That's a pretty sick guitar. |
Trebor.
11.02.11 | I like all three depending on what you want to play |
Thane
11.02.11 | i really dig the tone on les paul's, just hate the design. also so big and heavy, i want to be able to move properly with it. ideally i'd get an ESP but too expensive. |
KILL
11.02.11 | i like jacksons |
DominionMM1
11.02.11 | Jackson's Pro Series are solid. Of course the USA line is top shelf. |
KILL
11.02.11 | i got a DKMGT, its a great guitar for the price i reckons |
Trebor.
11.02.11 | just hate the design. also so big and heavy
That's what rules about Les Paul's |
Aids
11.02.11 | Most of my "dream guitars" are Gibson's but that's only cause most of them look so badass. For
playability it's Fender all the way. I have a (mexican) Stratocaster. Pretty low quality as far as
Fenders go but it kicks the ass of about 95% of the guitars I've ever played. I seriously love that
piece of shit.
lol Ibanez. unless you want to play Dragonforce or something. |
bloc
11.02.11 | I've started on a Epiphone Les Paul (I know, not the same), sharpened my skills on an Ibanez, and now play very well with a Fender Telecaster.
All 3 were/are great guitars and certainly serve different purposes but I might just have to go with Fender... |
DominionMM1
11.02.11 | Fenders just have that flimsy feel to them, at least for me. |
UnnamedOcean
11.02.11 | It's Fender all the way for me. I don't really like the feel of Les Pauls. The only Gibson I really
like at all is the SG. I prefer the nice clean, biting tone you get from a Telecaster. Plus Gibson
makes all those stupid body designs that look like absolute shit. |
Trebor.
11.02.11 | lol Ibanez. unless you want to play Dragonforce or something.
Dude no |
UnnamedOcean
11.02.11 | Ibanez is.... okay. I don't see what is so good about them with Schecter and PRS out there. |
bloc
11.02.11 | Gibson is definitely embarrassing themselves these days, but given their classic models they have all boundaries covered. |
DominionMM1
11.02.11 | Gibsons are definitely hit-or-miss. But when you get a good one, there's nothing else like it. |
Trebor.
11.02.11 | Schecter is just shitty Ibanez |
bloc
11.02.11 | "Schecter is just shitty Ibanez"
I agree with this but I still believe Schecter makes decent guitars. |
bloc
11.02.11 | And holy fuck those Super Wizard necks on older Ibanezes are the worst |
CrisStyles
11.02.11 | I play a acoustic-electric Fender that I've been using for a couple years now which I love so I'm biased toward Fender but Ibanez is a good electric brand. Haven't played a Gibson yet, definitely want to at some point. |
IanDavila
11.02.11 | i used to play a Gibson les paul standard, its amazing in terms of tone and construction, great sustain. Then I change to fender jaguar, kinda vintage stuff, really cool, and i loved the warm sound and vintage of the single coils, even like the noise from them. Now i got a Fender jazzmaster AVRI. is just perfect to me. |
Divine
11.02.11 | "Schecter is just shitty Ibanez"
It all depends on your taste, I guess |
UrAssIsMyHat
11.02.11 | avenged sevenfold play schecter and they need to go back to music school |
Zorak
11.02.11 | I guess I am biased with schecters. My lefty schecter was my first guitar and is still the guitar I use today. I have been looking into a secondary one though. |
EonblueApocalypse84
11.02.11 | All large guitar manufacturers are going to have guitars out there that suck. Especially if you're playing them in a fucking guitar center. I've played 4,000$ PRS guitars that suck shit. Just play the guitar before you buy and you shouldn't have an issue. I take issue with it because I know people who have bought guitars online and then complain when it is crappy quality. If you buy a guitar online you deserve to get hosed IMHO. |
UrAssIsMyHat
11.02.11 | Guitar research? What the fuck does that even mean?
Yeah, you just have to try out a shit load of guitars and find the one that's right for you |
paxman
11.02.11 | I have an Ibanez. It's decent. Gibson SG and Fender Strats have been my faves, but you really just have to play and find
the one that fits you.
Alvarez is the best acoustic you will ever play. |
CrownOfMagnets
11.02.11 | Gibson SG. |
