I Like France, Do You Like France?

Yesterday there were lists about Queen, little known movies and a review of The Doors s/t album. This list is a result of those tumbled in my mind and spit out as I've been thinking about them since. List is 10 of my favorite movies from French Cinema and Queen and Doors digs-o-the-day
1The Doors
The Doors

Three Colors: Blue (1993) Starting with my favorites would be the Three
Colors Trilogy. I'm listing them separately because they can be viewed individually however watching them all can shed light on the master plan.
Blue is a tale of sorrow where Juliette Binoche's character must find a
reason to live after her family is killed in a car crash.
2The Doors
Strange Days

Three Colors: White (1994) after getting rolled by his wife a man gets
satisfaction via revenge of the highest order. This one is obviously
influenced by The book Great Expectations.
3The Doors
Waiting For The Sun

Three Colors: Red (1994) this one is about loneliness and is probably my
favorite due to it's subtlety. With all three of them the color in the name
plays a big part of the cinematography but it is present and most obvious
and breathtaking in this one.
4The Doors
Morrison Hotel

The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain (2001) A.K.A. Amelie: This movie is
just fucking cute and majestic. If you are familiar with any of these it is
probably going to be this one.
5The Doors
L. A. Woman

The City of Lost Children (1995) This may be the first movie I ever saw Ron
Perlman in. This movie has a Gothic feel that puts Tim Burton to shame. It'
will put you in the mind set of Dark City, Clive barker and Neil Gaiman all
rolled into one.
6Queen
Queen

High Tension (2003) I saw this in the theater when it came out. I had no
idea it was french when I went to see it and I left the theater saying "I had
no idea the French could make a GOOD horror movie".
7Queen
Queen II

La Femme Nikita (1990) This is heralded as a cult classic for good reason.
This is an outstanding movie and that's why there has been an American
remake and two series made after it. Don't be fooled as this is better than
all of those pale imitations.
8Queen
A Night at the Opera

The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover (1989) This was probably the
second french film I ever saw. It is a odd as the tittle would suggest and is
also a cult classic with very good reason. Expect to see a lot of very familiar
faces including Helen Mirren and Tim Roth. Those two names alone would
be reason enough for me to watch it these days.
9Queen
A Day At The Races

A Pure Formality (1994) I think I caught this on Bravo a number of years
ago and have not seen it since. It isn't available on DVD for region 1 so
good luck finding it. The entire "Play" (I'm going to call it a play) takes place
in one room and pits Gérard Depardieu against Roman Polanski. There is an awesome twist I'm dying to tell you about but It makes the movie and you
may be able to find it so...
10Queen
News Of The World

King of Hearts (1966) This one I have rec'd to a few of you and is just a
fanboy favorite. It is the most popular cult classic you've never heard of and
the first French film I ever saw. It single-handedly is responsible for my love
of French cinematography and for me has infinite replay value. Also if any of
you are familiar with the cult classic Dead Ringers (Balls I'm looking at you)
you may be interested to see Genevičve Bujold young and gorgeous. If
there is any question of it's cult classic status just remember that it did run
for five years at the Central Square Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts
as well as another theater in Chicago for a number of years as well.
11Queen
Flash Gordon

Honorable mentions: Persepolis (2007), Irreversible (2002), 8 Women
(2002), Delicatessen (1991)
