listen omni. there's generally a fundamental difference between the two sides here. the default diet in developed countries is omnivorous. when someone makes a choice to go veg they generally take it seriously (or I did anyway). that means doing lots of independent research. it's because I made it such a large part of my life that I know so much about it. I did tonnes and tonnes and tonnes of research and thinking for myself on the matter of what I wanted my diet to be. and maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think you did the same. obviously there are lots of people who study up and then decide to still be omnivorous, but I don't think it's much of a stretch for me to assert that most of you don't sit and consider the pros and cons for hours, days, like I did. excuse me if this is a pompous assumption but I don't think it's false. if you sat down and did hours of research and then still decided to eat meat then fine, I'll shut up. but I don't think you did. I assume that I have "superior knowledge" of the matter, as you put it, because I do over about 99% of the people I've met face-to-face. again, if you've done shit tonnes of educating yourself on the matter then i stand a corrected dickweed.
and im not a fucking retard, i know bullshit when i read it, and i've read lots of it. I'm a very critical person and i would never make such a huge life decision or get all up in random stranger's grills if I wasn't completely sure I knew what I was talking about. I have never had a face-to-face conversation about this with someone and been proven wrong because I don't believe bullshit science. I make my opinions on solid research and lots of deep thought. I'm not trying to act like a king or something, I just happen to know that I have done much more actual research or whatever into the subject than most of the people in this thread. its like if you're a science major and some liberal arts major starts talking to you about quantum physics. of course you're going to feel like you know more because you probably do.
again, i could very well be wrong and you could have put a lot of thought and time into this yourself. but I don't know you so I assumed that, like the vast majority of meat-eating peoples, you aren't as well read on stuff like the food economy or environmental degradation caused by large-scale farming as I am. I have read a few books specifically about "food economy or environmental degradation caused by large-scale farming" and a lot of the stuff I'm seeing is scaring the s*** out of me. I do a lot of purchasing from local farms because of this but in fairness I did not read up on it from a dietary POV. I think the point I was trying to make is that your statements are probably factual but only if we use current methods which is not to say that they are the only or correct methods.
I don't think it has to be the way you are describing. I think it's more that it simply isn't geared to feed the globe.
It may take to many resources to raise meat but I don't think it has too. |

10.05.11 | I like Phil and Negreanu (especially the latter) a lot, but Dwan is quickly becoming my favorite. He's not quite as nice as Daniel, but few players are. He is very polite, and he never lets emotions overtake him, and he has made some of the craziest laydowns and calls I've ever seen, and his bluffing, second to NONE. |
