Confused About Metalcore.

Guys, after listening to the early metalcore bands like Converge and Integrity and even some straight hardcore punk bands like Tragedy I can't seem to find the breakdowns anywhere. Why are breakdowns associated with hardcore punk while the hardcore bands don't play them? I've heard more breakdowns in death metal or even prog metal than in hardcore. So could someone explain this to me, backed by examples?
1Converge
Axe To Fall
2Integrity
Those Who Fear Tomorrow
3Tragedy
Vengeance
