09.10.11 | "Pruises aren't pretty but having to spend less than a hundred dollars on gas every month would be worth it."
It's true that the mileage is good, but that doesn't take into account the insanely expensive replacement batteries. These same batteries also happen to be so unsustainable that they basically cancel out any preexisting eco-friendliness. |

09.10.11 | Prius drivers are idiots. But I don't know; I drive my dad's old '98 Infinity I-30 (yep my car is only 4 years younger than me), and it gets like 12-14 mpg, so I'm pretty jealous of Prius drivers' fuel mileage. Even with replacement batteries (I didn't know they even had these) I'm sure Prius still is more efficient. |
eternium
09.10.11 | I don't know enough about hybrids to know how often you have to replace the batteries but I'm pretty certain that if they're treated well, like any car, they'll last and if the batteries are handled correctly (and not just thrown away, you don't do that to any sort of battery) then it'll have minimal damage to the environment. |

09.10.11 | How does that car get so bad mileage? Is it a V8? My '84 300ZX still gets around 18 or so mpg and it's a V6. |

It's not the throwing them away, it's the production. |
Transcend
09.10.11 | The issue isn't throwing away the batteries: that usually goes over with minimal environmental impact. The problem is that the process of their manufacture negates most positive impact the Prius may have already had. |

09.10.11 | Interesting. Either way I'd rather own a normal car that still gets around 25 or more mpg which is pretty easy to find. |
Transcend
09.10.11 | Very true. I have a nice little Subaru, and it gets around 30 on a good day. |
toxin.
09.10.11 | @eternium, I don't know. I got 220 miles off of a 16 gallon tank I think. Let me calculate the exact mileage...
13.75. For starters I don't think it had good mileage to start (it's V6 by the way, although it barely has any pickup anyways), and I guess the 130K miles didn't help. Maybe it didn't get adequate maintenance? I'm not sure.
Its original mileage was 19 and 24 on highway, so I don't even know how it's so bad. |
Transcend
09.10.11 | I think variable mileage can have a lot to do with exactly how you drive. Like I said, my car can get up to 30 MPG, but I often get from 18-25 (I think) because I accelerate and brake a lot. |
toxin.
09.10.11 | It could be that, but to be honest I'm pretty conservative when I'm driving. I don't accelerate fast (unlike other 17 year olds), and even though I'm sure it hurts the gearshift, I do put my car into neutral if it's logical to do that. |
Transcend
09.10.11 | I'm 17 as well, and the problem isn't that I accelerate fast: it's that I do it too often. Like, instead of just rolling down a sloped freeway I'll often speed up until I'm close to the car in front of me, then I'll brake. |
toxin.
09.10.11 | Hm, yeah well I don't really do that either but maybe I'm just being nice about my driving. It might just be that I drive surface street 95% of the time, and my city's a heavily developed suburb, so I end up stopping a lot though. There are no open streets except one that I rarely use. |
eternium
09.10.11 | I accelerate pretty fast, it's hard not to in this thing, but I also get off the gas whenever I have the chance, especially when I know I'm going to have to stop anyway (slow car, red light, etc.) so I don't have to brake as much. |
sifFlammable
09.10.11 | i dont think the purpose of hybrid is to save the environment so much as to save up on depleting petroleum resources in the future |
toxin.
09.10.11 | Well I mean if your car is designed to accelerate quickly then it's no issue. I suppose it can be best described by how hard you push down on the pedal. Either way I tend to do that too, although I've been slacking lately. Next time I fill up I'll again use the "trip" feature to see what the mpg is. |
eternium
09.10.11 | Everywhere on the internet says my tank should hold 19 gallons but I fill it up and usually put around 9 in it, which lasts for around 250 miles. |
eternium
09.10.11 | So.. my car gets about 21 mpg if my calculations are correct. I always try to get gas when it reads 1/8 of a tank. |

09.10.11 | Prius driver aren't NEARLY as bad as SUV drivers. Fucking douchebags think they own the road. |
BallsToTheWall
09.10.11 | Women in SUV's can FOAD. Had an incident outside of college last week, black lady who almost caused an accident by pulling out of the left lane at the last minute into my lane and then she tries to make a u-turn and blocks the whole god damn road, and struggles to reverse and accelerate properly. |

09.10.11 | I'm sorry to be the one to say it, but women drivers in general are pretty bad. |

09.10.11 | yeah but put a women in a SUV expect bad things. Why are they even outside the kitchen anyways? Who let women become mobile? |
