09.04.11 | yeah the room is pretty much the worst made movie I have seen to date. The reason I love it is cause unlike other shitty movies that are self-aware and try to be awful, the room is completely earnest in everything it does, and it tries to be a great film, but falls flat in every regard.
Repo Man is pretty campy, but also pretty well-made. It's got a really idiosyncratic style and insanely quotable.
If you like Videodrome, I also recommend that you check out Altered States. It starts off really philosophical and interesting, but then sort of degenerates into a cheap body horror movie, but it's still a lot of fun.
also just realized evil dead isn't on here and that's a classic. |

09.04.11 | Holy Mountain and El Topo are just weird as hell, and to me not really messed up in the sense of movies like "last house on the left" and "cannibal holocaust" because holy mtn and topo are meant to be taken symbolically. Granted the symbology used is really weird and fucked up but it has some purpose or message behind it.
Is this just a course for studying film, or are you interested in making film? if so, you should def watch evil dead, and el mariachi - two great films made by now famous directors when they were just starting out, and made movies on shoe-string budgets |
