08.24.11 | There have neen many great line-ups all over the years and its a little bit difficult to say which ones are the greatests.
A good line-up, or a good band must fill in some specific requirements in order to be considered great.
IMO these requirements are:
consistency
legacy or influence
originality (thats a subjective issue because no one was REALLY original except from the very early rn'r and blues artists).
at least 1 or 2 classic records
Hence the only bands that fill in these requirements are Sabbath, Priest and Maiden imo.
BTW Notrap good list. m/ |
TheNotrap
08.24.11 | Thanks man
Don't you think these Slayer, Dio, Queensryche, Metallica or Megadeth line-ups fill the requirements?
consistency...legacy or influence...originality..... |

08.24.11 | "Don't you think these Slayer, Dio, Queensryche, Metallica or Megadeth line-ups fill the requirements?

Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth were all consistent and influential but they were not really original.
And apart from that, they influenced a whole new generation of shitty bands.
Dio were a fantastic band, no doubt about it, but they made only 2 really good records. And they were not original. I Rainbow was a better and a far more influential band imo.
I haven't listen to Queensryche so i can't express an opinion about them. |
TheNotrap
08.24.11 | Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth....were not really original.
They created a new genre man. They gave that little step forward away from NWOBHM |
TheNotrap
08.24.11 | I haven't listen to Queensryche
don't miss this band, specially Rage For Order, Operation: Mindcrime and Empire |
rockandmetaljunkie
08.24.11 | "They created a new genre man. They gave that little step forward away from NWOBHM"
They just picked up the pace.
They added classic Punk Rock in NWOBHM.
For me Motorhead was more influential than these 3. |
TheNotrap
08.24.11 | I understand your point but I believe you're not being fair. These guys were truly pioneers IMO
Agreed. Motorhead was extreme influential |
NightProwler
08.25.11 | I don't know if I would go as far as calling Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer pioneers. But they're great.
And where did the AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, etc. line-ups come from? This is a list about metal line-ups. And don't give me that "Led Zeppelin helped make metal". Black Sabbath did. Nor is AC/DC a metal band. Both groups are Hard Rock bands. But don't get me wrong, I love both bands.
If one should bring up rock line-ups, you might as well mention the Who and the Rolling Stones. |
JamieTwort
08.25.11 | Seeing as a lot of people have mentioned Hard Rock bands I feel Deep Purple Mk. 2 deserves a mention. Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover, Ian Paice and Jon Lord, one of the best rock line-ups ever. |
