Iiiiiiiiiiiiiin Waaaaaaaaaaaaaves Ranked
Frustrating album. There are flashes of awesomeness in almost all of the
songs but then there's usually at least one moment that makes me go
"what the fuck that was lame." There's also very little cohesion but I
found that there are several songs I do really enjoy. It's like a 3-3.5. |
14 | Trivium Black
I just don't really like this song. At least the other two short single-ready songs
have catchy melodic choruses. This one doesn't quite know whether it wants to
th4sh or please pop audiences and instead is caught awkwardly in between. |
13 | Built to Fall
These bottom three songs are all such tailor-made singles it's ridiculous. It feels
like there wasn't a lot of effort put into their composition. I mean, sure this
song has a catchy chorus but it's just kinda...bleh who cares. |
12 | A Grey So Dark
It's like Dying in Your Arms...but possibly even gayer. Well it's very catchy at
least, not terrible. |
11 | A Skyline's Severance
One of the heavier songs. It's not really bad it's just that it's pretty
unmemorable when compared to the other heavy songs. Nothing particularly
good about it, a lot of cliche metalcore. |
10 | In Waves
I'm still not positive what exactly I think of this song. The individual sections are
enjoyable by themselves but it's all so poorly strewn together. And ugh I just
can't stand the lyrics when I pay attention to them. |
9 | Of All These Yesterdays
The token ballad. I really enjoy the chorus but I can't help but feel that James
Hetfield wrote the song in the 90's... |
8 | Drowning in Slow Motion
Gah I hate how Matt Heafy makes the titles of all of the songs so apparent in
every song. Interesting that after such a lazy beginning the rest of the song is
surprisingly well-written. The chorus is nice in that it doesn't culminate in a
major cadence and instead continues descending. It kinda fits the name of the
song. |
7 | Chaos Reigns
This might be the heaviest song Trivium have recorded to date. Also the main
riff/chorus is in 13 which makes for some interesting off-kilter head-banging
moments. |
6 | Watch the World Burn
Would make a good single. Catchy as all fuck. The ending makes me cringe but
the rest of the song is pretty fun. Good groovy riffs. |
5 | Inception of the End
Even though the "SACRIFICE ALL YOUR FEARS" section is awful the rest of the
song is really good. It harkens back to the Ascendancy days. There's also a
pretty creative bridge with blast-beating complimented by tremelo picking and
harmonized vocals and I really dig it. |
4 | Shattering the Skies Above
The riffzzz thraaaaaaash and the chorus sooooooars |
3 | Dusk Dismantled
Was pretty stoked when this song was released. One of the heavier songs
they've done. It's even got this kinda black metal section. |
2 | Caustic Are the Ties That Bind
There's a really pretty ballad-esque section sandwiched between the more
standard Trivium core-riffing. The contrast works well though, and it's definitely
one of the better-written songs on the album. |
1 | Forsake Not the Dream
While the first 15 seconds or so sound a bit awkward, the rest of the song is
incredible. It's got tons of those punchy melodic-death/metalcore riffs which are
all the rage now. Seriously though I do love this song. |
