08.05.11 | amazing idea man, although I do eat, sleep and breathe music. also, i used to work listening to music so that helped a lot with my ratings. Also why is the site so dead tonight? |
tkxxx7
08.05.11 | it's not like they didn't start listening to the music they rated here until they got here, non-mainstream music exists outside of sputnik |
Trebor.
08.05.11 | I have 500 ratings
So yeah |
AggravatedYeti
08.05.11 | oh, what, the, fuck. |
FromDaHood
08.05.11 | You have to multiply by .75 you dumbass. Now all your math is messed up. |
Powerban
08.05.11 | i'm not directly accusing anyone either guys, since i don't know your background. it's just some harmless insight. |
Trebor.

08.05.11 | oh what the fuck this isn't a best user list |
Hyperion1001
08.05.11 | I guarantee i have listened to much more music than i have rated on this site.
Regardless this is still a pretty cool idea. |
foreverendeared
08.05.11 | I had a job for several years where I was allowed to wear headphones, so during that period, I
listened to a LOT of music; of coarse, I don't have nearly that many albums rated, though. |
Pharoh
08.05.11 | people just rate whatever to seem cool |

08.05.11 | So, I'm only getting 140 days (2250 hours). That's not too out of the realm of possibility, especially if you're in your mid-20's. |
Poet
08.05.11 | How many people have you actually seen with 3000+ albums rated on here though? Personally I've only seen 3 or 4 since I've been on here and I definitely know at least one of them is telling the truth. |
Powerban
08.05.11 | yeah sorry hood, i just wrote this up quickly and thought of it as i went along. you're correct. but even halving it still makes it questionable.
no one listens to music the whole time they're awake. |
Trebor.
08.05.11 | Almost all day |
Pharoh
08.05.11 | "no one listens to music the whole time they're awake"
if i ever do that, ill be sick and tired of music |
Trebor.
08.05.11 | There is too much music to get tired of it |
Powerban
08.05.11 | i just fixed the math up for it, the statement still stands. you would of thought mx would of got off his ass to fix that r bug by now. |
Pharoh
08.05.11 | yeah but, youll want some peace and quiet |
Powerban
08.05.11 | let me rephrase what i said. no one has a playlist of new album upon new album going 16 hours a day, every day. |
acorncheese
08.05.11 | i've always felt this way. don't understand the 3,000+ ratings. i've been "sputnik-deep" into music-listening for the last six years and i can't imagine having *listened* to 3,000+ albums. i haven't even broken 400 ratings yet, but that's not to say that i haven't listened to 400+ albums in my lifetime. |
Trebor.
08.05.11 | Silence sucks |
YetAnotherBrick
08.05.11 | holy shit look at this guy. (referring to the listmaker lol)
also,
silence sucks [2]
^ that so hard. |
Powerban
08.05.11 | i feel about the same, acorncheese. i stopped rating albums because i got caught up in rating albums before i really had a proper grasp on what my rating was. i would note to myself that i would listen to the album more and go back and change the rating if needed. a lot of the time though, i wouldn't listen to the album again, or i wouldn't go back and rate it more correctly. |
Hocmat
08.05.11 | Well I hope people listen to an album more than once lol. |
Emim
08.05.11 | like people actually listen to music before rating it. |
Deviant.
08.05.11 | Pretty random equation
You're failing to factor in any album more than say a year old, like all the albums you might have listened to growing up that you've subsequently rated. You're also basing this strictly on LP's which isn't a great idea. I have over 4000 ratings and at least 1500 (a rough guess) of those are EP's and vinyl 12" releases. I also have the luxury of being able to listen to music at work, and this is a job I have had for 2 years now. That's 9 hours 5 days a week over 2 years. You do the math (even though you already have) |
Uranium
08.05.11 | "Silence sucks"
I bathe in silence. It's the best way to form original thoughts. |
Trebor.
08.05.11 | I even listen to music in the shower, and on the toilet |
Powerban
08.05.11 | i was fairly sure that you would have a good explanation, dev. but even in the couple of years you've been here you should of noticed new users signing up with maybe 50 albums under their belt, asking for recs and seemingly not really knowing too many bands. fast forward to a year later and they've got one to two thousand albums rated.
i mean surely it's worth questioning. |
Deviant.
08.05.11 | Well sure, but just because when I joined I decided to start rating my music collection doesn't mean that someone else will. You say fast forward a year later, well in that time these new users (who obviously aren't new anymore) might have found the time to rate their collection. There might be people out there who have rated without hearing, but I'd say it's a rather small percentage. I'd also wager that 90% of the userbase here have under 2000 ratings |
Scoot
08.05.11 | so basically it's just a big load of shit |
qwe3
08.05.11 | "The average album is between 40-50 minutes"
did you count EPs and singles and splits etc that are all usually short where are you getting this number |
sifFlammable
08.05.11 | just remember that as you rightfully claimed some people get caught up in rating albums before they really have a proper grasp on what their ratings are |
qwe3
08.05.11 | "Close to a year of rconstant music in your awakened life. "
if by close to a year you mean half a year yeah |
Powerban
08.05.11 | that was before when i did the math wrong qwe, but w/e. sif understands the point i'm trying to make. |
qwe3
08.05.11 | well yeah if the point was that people don't rate honestly then i think everyone on the entire site could have told you that bro but interesting idea |
Powerban
08.05.11 | yeah i thought it would be interesting to see how people have so much time to do it as well, like dev said. i thought it might bring some interesting reasonings. |
