I got stuck on Meshuggah last few days as well oddly enough, but just Obzen. Dancers To A Discordant System, Obzen, Bleed are just rediculously good.

07.23.11 | meshuggah's output falls pretty much into two categories: contradictions, dei and chaosphere are more thrash-oriented. nothing, catch33 and obzen are more groove oriented. it's a matter of preference really. |
MO
07.23.11 | Hey porch, I'd say give Catch 33 a spin. It's a phenomenal record and flows from one track to the next. |

07.23.11 | So qwe is your main gripe with Meshuggah the fact that the pretty much carry the same tone throughout all their stuff? Cause you don't seem to TOTALLY hate them. |
sumyunguy
07.23.11 | well, truthfully i hated meshuggah when i first heard them. no doubt they are an extremely hard band to get into. but once it clicks, it clicks hard. i honestly find opeth extremely hard to dislike. agree on maiden, sabbath, and death. on the other hand, i find neurosis depressingly boring, and i've heard all of their albums. |

07.23.11 | "So qwe is your main gripe with Meshuggah the fact that the pretty much carry the same tone throughout all their stuff? Cause you don't seem to TOTALLY hate them."
i pretty much detest music that manages to be so depressingly bland. like have you HEARD obZen? it goes fucking nowhere. and have you heard the vocals? and the LYRICS? i mean holy shit. pretty much it's just bad music man. i dunno. everything i like about music meshuggah manages to not do.
i like I because it builds momentum really well and takes the least long to give me a headache out of all their stuff |
sumyunguy
07.23.11 | but see, i pretty much feel the exact same way about neurosis. except your anguish only lasts 50 minutes while mine lasts 75. lol |

what neurosis have you listened to? |
Kubrick
07.23.11 | "Silver in Blood" and The Eye of Every Storm." I actually like them both especially from an experimental standpoint but for some reason it just doesn't maintain interest. Like the songs are cool but they are also very long, which in of itself obviously isn't a problem but a lot of their songs don't convince me that the length is necessary. Like I don't feel that they do enough unique things to justify the length. I have that problem when listening to post-metal in general honestly. Maybe it just isn't my thing but I feel that I should like it based on the other things I enjoy. |
zaruyache
07.23.11 | "truthfully i hated meshuggah when i first heard them. no doubt they are an extremely hard band to get into. but once it clicks, it clicks hard."
Took me like a year to like ObZen, but now I love it.
And Combustion isn't that great of a song. It's basically just a Meshuggah-nization of a typical thrash track, solo and all. It's not bad, but it's not amazing. |
sumyunguy
07.23.11 | i actually agree about combustion. it's probably my least favorite song on the album. i prefer groove Meshuggah and combustion has practically none. the solo is legit though |
