Only bummer for me was that I used to cut my mouth and lips up all to shot when I'd scream for my band with braces on, but they're off now, so no more. :D
Though I will say in many ways retainers are more annoying than braces. |

07.13.11 | I had one of my teeth rotated 90 degrees so it was facing sideways instead of forward. Plus massive buckteeth, teeth that were only halfway down, and an area at the bottom of my mouth where I had four teeth fit into the space of two. Oh, and massive gaps between my teeth. Most of it's fixed now, but y'know, when you're that bad, you can't fix it all, unfortunately. Still got a few gaps. Meh.

Yeah, they're way better. The gaps are barely noticeable now, compared to where they were before. A few millimetres compared to centimetres. Unfortunately, I have an extremely small jaw, especially for a male (genetics I suppose, common family problem). Because of the way my teeth grew in (semi-horizontally, with the tips facing forward because of lack of room in my mouth), to fix the gaps completely, they'd need to pull some teeth out, and since it wasn't necessary medically, they didn't want to do it, which I can understand. It doesn't bother me the gaps; really. I didn't get the braces for appearance alone; my teeth were severely impeding my speech and such. Now they're fixed, it's great. |

I'm really holding out hope that I get my top ones removed in 8 months or so (right before senior prom) since there's really just one gap to be fixed. I don't even show bottom teeth when I smile, so that's not a big dea.
@Butkuiss, ahh that's good. Yeah it seems like braces were a bigger deal to you than the majority of us (who get it for aesthetics alone)
@Slum, every 2 weeks? I have every 6 weeks I think. And yeahh teeth really do look amazing. My brother's went from horribly ugly to way better than mine. |

I have really straight teeth considering my family genes or horrible teeth, so I'm not complaining. I never sucked my thumb or used a pacifier when I was young either... So, I bet that kinda helps my tooth alignment a little.
But yeah, like others have said, so many people have them now that it's no big deal. I mean, just about everyone I know has had braces one time or another. |

Braces aren't too bad once you get used to them, although getting them tightened can make your mouth ache pretty bad. The worst part for me was having to re-learn how to play trombone twice, once when I got them on and once again when they were taken off. |

07.13.11 | Don't worry man, I said no to braces when I was at a reasonable time to get them (aged 13) and my teeth got worse and worse (age 15-16), which prompted me to say yes, so they stuck me on a two-year waiting list. I got them put in age 18, which I am now, and I hate my smile too. I mean, I hated it before, but in the 7 months I've had them I have noticed a massive improvement, so you'll just have to adjust and persevere, they're here to stay for a bit and if you keep yourself busy the time should fly by and it'll be worth it. The thing to remember is, nobody really cares you've got them apart from yourself. |

07.13.11 | Nah, it depends on various things -how long it takes for the brace to shift the teeth into position for example. I mean, my upper set look much better positioned after 7 months work but I know I'll have to have them on probably until this time next year.
Just wish you had so much money, you could get invisible ones. They only cost 20 times the price of normal ones. |

Depends on the mouth bro. Just make sure you do what they tell you. the shortest distance between two points is a strait line.
I got mine in my 20s and had them on for a few years. I'm glad I did it because when I was single I would get complimented by women on my strait teeth (including my wife). Don't worry about how you look to chicks now worry about them later when they are worth it. ;^) |

07.13.11 | @Snowball, yeah, at my office, the orthodontist said it was $4900, and there was a $500 rebate we got because my brother previously got braces at the same place. So it was cheaper than the braces, which ended up being $4500. I heard Invisalign was more trouble than it was worth, but my two issues with braces are the appearance and the eating restrictions. With Invisalign those wouldn't exist, but my mom was like blah blah blah. She wanted to go for the safe pick, I guess.
@Omnipanzer, ah that makes sense. Yeah I heard those were the worst parts of braces (besides tightening) but my orthodontist said my overbite is minimal, so I'm hoping to get those off.
@andcas, yeah I think my sixth grade teacher had braces on, and she was like 40. Honestly if you're that old, why not just get Invisalign? But whatever, their decision I suppose |
